I'm not what you typically imagine when you envision a runner. I'm not tall and slender with long legs, and you were more likely to see me running late to a dinner reservation than to see me running in the park near my apartment.
Normally I run for myself. I run for gold, personal records, and the support of my peers. Running in its nature is an individual sport. When running, if I see a teammate running slower than I am, I wish him luck as I pass him, but the 9/11 5K run is different for me.
If you want to be a runner, or you want to be faster, the solution is simple. Just get out there and run. It's summer, the trails and pavement are waiting to meet your feet. I'll be out there chasing another PR in my quest for the marathon.
