The idea that household appliances need Internet-connected capabilities has always seemed over the top. The products are finally becoming practical. However, before these technologies become mainstream the industry will need to address a major issue: Can they convince consumers that these devices are secure and non-invasive?
As 2014 gets underway, something profound is afoot among some of the world's largest brands. They are doing things differently and challenging the status quo. Rather than being daunted by the prospect of change, they have the courage to embrace it, which I would argue is setting them up for a more successful future.
