On Dec. 1, I provided oral and written testimony to a hearing of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming of the US Congress. It turns out this was the very last hearing of the Select Committee.
The administration's safety pause isn't about ending offshore drilling, it is about ending the oil industry's practice of offshoring the safety of rigs by using various "island getaways" from regulation.
This is a big deal, even if you don't particularly care about inside Congressional baseball. The Energy and Environment Subcommittee has something the Select Committee does not: subpoena power and legislative jurisdiction.
