Sewage Sludge

San Francisco had the audacity to label waste sludge as "organic" and give it away to home gardeners and even school gardens. The city's actions are outrageous, but they serve as a wake-up call.

Humanity will return to organic agriculture because it is the only farming system that can supply the world with sufficient quantities of healthy food in the emerging era of global warming, erratic weather, declining fossil fuels, and water scarcity.

At the White House, the precautionary principle should be used: lead contaminated soil should be removed and replaced with organic compost. That would be the safe and truly organic way.

No one is being poisoned by eating the bounty of wonderful crops that have been grown in the White House Kitchen Garden, period.
