Social Justice Christians

As we think about the misery of Jesus, we begin to realize the hardships of other humans. We take the time to remember the distress of those in Haiti. We reflect on those who have been bombed in their cities. We imagine what it is like to live with the threat of Malaria or AIDS.

I thought Glenn Beck must have moved on to other things, but the other night, he went back to his attack on social justice churches. This time the issue was climate change.

We want the world to know we're out there: Christians who prefer peace and social justice over political capital. Christians who don't measure self-worth by whether we're able to convince you to see things our way.

Between pauses for praise songs and worship, the Q conference buzzed with new possibilities for meeting human need and alleviating suffering around the planet.

Jesus may not have been primarily concerned with politics, but for what politics he did have, it is virtually impossible to argue that he was anything but a progressive thinker.
