The American paradox is that everyone wants small government and high services, low taxes, and a balanced budget. The genius of the Republicans is that they've convinced a huge swath of America that all of this is actually possible.
Obama took office as president of a country with a $1.4 trillion deficit -- thanks to the failure of conservative policies. Their tax cuts, wars, military buildups, corruption and incompetence drove the borrowing way up.
Corporations can now directly intervene in campaigns with candidate-specific ads. The only requirement remaining is that they not be coordinated with a campaign. But that's a requirement more of form than substance.
