Whether all these figures are anti-heroes, or in some cases something else entirely, is an interesting question. As is the question of why anti-heroes are so important in quality television. Short form answer is that they match the times. It's a mostly cynical and sour era, with little faith in institutions or, generally speaking, leaders.
My feeling about interviews with artists and bands is that these are people who you are inviting into your virtual house and they should be shown respect based on their being your guests. I believe it doesn't mean you have to agree with what they say or even endorse it, but it does mean civility should be the course.
There's nothing particularly wrong with employing the time-space continuum for the pure fun of the concept. Edge of Tomorrow makes good sport of it, but, given the mind-bending possibilities inherent in the genre, it seems almost a crime not delve for deeper meanings than just "craven coward becomes kick-ass action hero."
