Let's make sure we're there for people, that we advocate for better treatment and research, that we keep our eyes open to those who might be suffering and alone. Let's be kind to ourselves, be patient with our pain, and remember that it is possible to survive and overcome even the worst moments of sadness and depression.
As the facts emerge surrounding Titi's passing, I hope that all, especially the black community, are moved to take action to significantly increase awareness and education surrounding mental health, illness and wellness so that we do not have to continue to mourn the passing of so many of our dynamic and extraordinary souls.
When someone ends their own life, there may be a note, or a reason that is given -- but for everyone who cares for them there will always be that terrible thought in the back of your mind that maybe -- just maybe -- if I had just done...? The blanks that you fill in at the end of that sentence can be endless.
