Now, at 26, looking at where my life is now and where I want to go, I started to think: Am I appreciating the people and the things that matter or am I letting the fast-paced life of a New Yorker distract me from what I really want?

Every day, 3 billion people in developing countries are exposed to toxic smoke when preparing meals. Cooking on traditional stoves and open fires causes almost 2 million deaths per year, mainly affecting women and young children.

In recent years, the value of women to their communities has been celebrated and received newfound emphasis in economic development. Women are often the caretakers, the breadwinners and the binding forces of their communities.

Founded in 1991 , Kickstart is a social enterprise working to systematically end poverty for thousands of people, by getting tools into the hands of entrepreneurs eager to start profitable businesses.
