Time for Mom

So many women lose themselves in motherhood. I call this the "Silent War," the process of slowly fading away from yourself, your interests and your passions without even realizing it's happening.

We've all heard the term "helicopter mom" to describe moms that are over-protective and overly involved in their children's daily activities. These moms frequently over-stay their welcome and hyper-manage everything.

Because my mother lost herself in motherhood and gave her children everything she had, she forgot to leave much for herself and had to reacquaint herself with the "Me" in Mommy.

Last year, I decided to complete my first Iron Girl Triathlon. I've always wanted to do a tri event, but the biggest obstacle facing me was that I did not know how to swim.

Disaster struck when I went into the kitchen to grab pita chips and guacamole and promptly dropped my 30-plus pound KitchenAid mixer onto my toes. Ouch! Scream!

At some point, I want to model what quality of life looks like for my kids and I'm pretty sure it isn't riding around from place to place in your car. Can you relate?

What started out as a trendy something-to-do has quickly become a must-do for all women to stay sane when life is quite the opposite.

When we listen to one another without condemning another's needs, we are all better. We provide a space that is non-judgmental, supportive and provides mothers with the same embrace that they give their families.

Your self-care isn't negotiable, it is necessary to be the best mom possible.

I decided a few years back that taking care of myself was just as important as taking care of everyone else.
