While in San Francisco for a sold-out screening of the documentary short Trucker Patti, of which I am the subject, I was made aware that casting director Kristan Berona was looking for transgender people for an episode in the final season of Glee. Being the "Gleek" that I am, I immediately got in touch with Kristan and was invited to participate.
Doing something that is totally inconsistent with previous behavior and runs counter to personal philosophical and spiritual beliefs can nonetheless free one to live in a more positive and healthful manner. It's not a cure-all, but it gave me the tools to overcome stigma, live authentically in service to others, and not see myself as a victim.
Over the course of these past weeks, I have experienced more profound doubt about my gender transition than at any other time since I earnestly began my journey last December. As the anniversary approaches, I cannot help but notice the gradual yet significant decline in social acceptance, which appears to correlate with becoming visibly further feminized.
