We are a civilized society, and the death penalty is barbaric and senseless and in so many cases. There is no question that those who kill should be accountable for their horrible actions. And prison is that punishment.

Despite that a preponderance of doubt still attends the Troy Anthony Davis death sentence, it looks like the state of Georgia will strap him to a table tomorrow and end his life.
The Davis case is a near textbook example of a death penalty case that reaches nowhere near the oft-stated but much-abused constitutional high bar of conviction, namely beyond a reasonable doubt.
As it moves into its second century, the NAACP is, unfortunately, as relevant as ever.
