Twitter's troll problem is not new, and by their own admission it has been a huge issue. Twitter is a private platform, just like comment sections in news outlets, so it can control the trolling any way it wishes, but it hasn't.
There is nothing funny or cool or manly about this type of behavior. Not remotely. And if you are friends with or know one of these people -- or people that behave this way, in real life or online -- let's make sure they know that.
Twitter has been a space to share information but it has also been a space where civility can be thrown out the window, free speech is hailed and abused and where the silencing of individuals, particularly women and minorities, has become commonplace.
Baseless information, rushed comments, unethical statements, insults and cursing have become common on the Internet. In this unfortunate situation we are losing our common sense and neglecting our wisdom. It will be worse if it continues as it is.
Given that some celebrities and public figures are deciding to leave Twitter because of hateful, racist, or threatening attacks from "Twitter Trolls"; is it completely unreasonable to speculate that Twitter may enact measures to mitigate this problem?
