Why do we call women's issues "women's issues"? So much of the inequality and violence that women encounter are relevant to men as well. The problems of patriarchy are not exclusively damaging to women -- they hurt men, too.
Violence against women costs us all a lot. There is the emotional toll. There is the physical toll. There is the overall health toll. And all of these tolls amount to a financial toll: I have been unable to do my very job.
There have been situations of honor killings, where no one is willing to bury the body of the woman, or severe beatings and women have no one to sit beside their hospital beds and KAMER steps in and plays their role in standing up for women.
