Supporting our veterans is not cheap; it involves a real investment in both policy and budget priorities. But our veterans put our country first and stepped up, and on this Memorial Day, state legislators of both parties need to be standing up for veterans with real resources as well.
Universities must be proactive to stay on top of the waves of changes facing them and work daily to create not only excellent institutions but those that are cost-competitive and relevant to the needs of students today... and tomorrow.
Because veterans have actually experienced the realities of war, operated in foreign environments, and negotiated with people of other cultures, student veterans take classroom discussion from the theoretical to the real.
Veterans who do attend competitive institutions are usually highly successful. These young men and women are motivated, focused, and efficient at time management. They not only excel academically, but enhance the general academic environment.
