The miracles of the universe are manifested in everything around us. Illumination comes when we pause in gratitude, in stillness, our eyes opening in appreciation for these most wondrous creations, big and little, like babies and apple pie.
It's really quite fun and simple. You can see results right away: you just focus on a virtue (like courage, resourcefulness, friendliness or wonder), cook up an appropriate recipe that reinforces that virtue and make the idea sizzle and stick.
Would you consider voting for someone for President with whom you often disagree on specific stances, but whom you feel in your heart of hearts is practicing the virtues that you most prize? Is it time to resuscitate the tradition of old of voting for candidates on virtue-based criteria?
I am not arguing that we should throw away the very virtues that are found within the feminine and masculine categories. I say we should stop distinguishing between "masculine virtues" and "feminine virtues."
Virtues are our moral duties to each other and to ourselves. And as with any other precious element of life, virtues must be shared to be felt. Extend your highest virtues, your greatest parts of your self, and gift them to the world to feel them grow in your heart.
By being mindful of what you are thinking or doing and alert to whether it is non-virtuous and/or meaningless, you can learn to quickly recognize when you have fallen into the trap of acting non-virtuously out of habit and ignorance.
