The town-hall format requires very different skills from the podium-style debate and can produce very different results. At the first town hall in 1992, Bill Clinton talked circles around George H.W. Bush and Ross Perot, in sharp contrast to the podium-style debates where Clinton and Bush were more evenly matched.
This past week I was privileged to be part of a meeting hosted by Washington University in St. Louis Chancellor Mark Wrighton. The gathering of over 50 community leaders was part of Washington University's year long dedicated initiative through their Institute of Public Health on gun violence prevention.
