Africa has plenty of trash -- with much more coming as its middle class grows -- but it currently has only a few waste-to-energy plants, and to date, only the largest African cities have comprehensive waste management systems that could feed into such systems efficiently.
What if humanity actually committed itself, at the level of a national government, to learning from and working with nature? What if environmentalism didn't mean (only) marching in the streets, pumping one's fists or chaining oneself to a tree?
The United States needs to diversify its energy sources if we want to create a more sustainable and more competitive future. Energy recovery from waste should be part and parcel of the national energy strategy.
