It's not about "political correctness" (in the context of current Mississippi politics, supporting the inclusion of the Rebel standard on the state flag is the politically "correct" thing to do). It's about moral correctness; it's about historical correctness; it's about common decency.
For me, the collaboration is sort of akin to working with a lyricist. There's no lyrics in the score, so you're basically working with the scenes as lyric and trying to find a way to emotionally support what's going on with that.
It's not just the thought that counts; it's the overview of how each year we repeat the journey home. And on the return -- our jeans a little tighter, the déjà vu unpleasantries of travel; all a mere blip, as in the end we still do anything to come home to our loved ones.
