U.S. Senator Dale Bumpers, who served from 1975-1999, recently died. Bumpers had flirted with a bid for the Democratic Presidential nomination three times, but ultimately chose not to seek the nomination. Had he run in 1988, he would have been a good bet to win the Presidency.
