Gender imbalance is detrimental not only to women -- but also to companies. The business case for gender equity has never been stronger, with numerous studies demonstrating that diverse teams result in better decision-making and stronger financial results.
My message to millennials is this: if you seek both a rewarding career and a fulfilling personal life, you will have to make choices, but choosing between career and family is not one of them. Don't believe it has to be all or nothing. Stop beating yourself up with the elusive quest for "balance."
Until we find that new path, women (and men) who can afford to step off the existing path, will continue to do so. And we will have the cover story equivalent of "Groundhog Day" -- as each new cohort finds itself conflicted for the first time.
