HuffPost political reporter Sam Stein joined Republican Strategist John Feehery on "The Ed Show" tonight to discuss whether Glenn Beck should apologize to President Obama for calling him a racist, and if Beck's comments are serving as a distraction to the GOP's political agenda.

Ed can't get ratings of his own, so he goes after people who do.
Sounds alot like what Keith does.
I guess if you sell your soul to get ratings, its easy. People watch the nutty Fox shows because they are not news; they are controversial opinion shows.
They are more than controversial. They promote race division and encourage h.ate groups to lash out at all who are different.
Ed goes after people who make this nation a dangerous place to live with their fear mongering and e.vil vitriol, including those who try to make the president who had a white mother and was raised by white grandparents, out to be a r.acist. Anyone who finds those kind of allegations are okay are themselves r.acist.
Always citing ratings are a moot point here on Huffpost. The only ones here on Huff who actually watch Faux news are the ones only here to troll. You neglect the FACT that MSNBC is number one for News on the Web with fox trolling somewhere between Comedy Central and PBS (SORRY NEWS HOUR and yes Jon Stewart and KO beats Bill'o on the net). The fact that a huge a number on faux news viewers can not or have diffculty even using a computer accounts for a large percentage of their "huge" ratings. Why would anyone except you and your like care about or get some type of gratification from Neilson and their obsolete ratings or the ad dollers they generate. No one visits HuffPost for the ads.
Actually the right wing conservative talking heads like Beck and Fox news do the United States more harm than they do the President.
These people and their medias portray America as an uneducated and backward nation that is in a desperate fight to keep from becoming civilized and part of the 21st Century.
exactly
What's the difference between conservatism and republicanism?
Its all gotten so blurry 'cause they sound the same.
Glen Beck is no fool !
In fact, he may be a genius ! He clearly doesnt believe what he said but it plays very well to the base and improves his standing among the die-hards.
He is dishonest and lies for money.
Barack Obama is truly a superman, wins a hard fought national election and then pulls 100 million racists single handedly out of the woodpile. He ought to be on Mt. Rushmore.
LMAO
he has smoked them out of their caves, hasn't he?
If that ain't the truth. Amen!
Those of you waiting on Glen Beck to applogize are wasting your time, Beck does not have the capacity. He is a empty soul. Besides, right wingnut race baiting is only destroying them, nothing good is going to come of this. What I have learned during the election is Obama is very smart, he has a way letting people destroy themselves and then seizing the moment when the time is right.
Sam, they are strictly moderating all my compliments for you out of this page - but you rock anyhow and are uber CUTE.
Cute, adorable and So Smart! Go, Sam!
Sam Stein.
He's adorable. Yes!
If I were Ed Schultz I would not have discussed Glenn Beck and his incoherent and hateful rantings. The less attention is given to him, the better off we will all be. And, as far as I'm concerned, Glenn Beck can get in line when it comes to tough lives. I know many many people who had extraordinarily tough lives who never turned their souls over to spewing hatred and insanity on a daily basis. Let's stop giving this miserable excuse for a human being the attention that he so desperately seeks. Without attention, he will likely become so totally deranged that even Fox will recognize that a resignation/retirement/spending-more-time-the-family is needed.
Apparently, Donny Deutsch (MSNBC) has called for a boycott of sponsors on GB's show, and the folks on dailykos are furiously sharing contact information to begin writing letters and making phone calls. It's about time we had some outrage, and since these people only understand money, let's hit them where it hurts.
Sponsors include: General Motors, Campbell Soup, Chrysler, Proctor & Gamble, Pfizer, Kellogg, Walmart, Kraft Foods, Nestle
I would think General Motors should be happy to save the advertising money, I think we know the product, and the President has been a big advocate to buy America.
So it was okay for lefties to make fun of Bush for 8 years, calling him a racist. In fact, some rapper went on national t.v. and said Bush "hated Black people" . Where was your outrage then? Where was your call for an apology?
Bush obviously doesn't like black people - K@trina ring a bell? Do you think he would have reacted in the same slow manner if it had been Martha's Vineyard that had been hit. And lest we forget the former first lady Barbara's remark about "the people should be happy because they are better off now" or something like that.
First of all, the claim that George Bush "hated Black people" is a lot more credible than the claim that Obama hates white people (look what the Bush 2000 primary campaign did to John McCain when it insinuated that McCain had "fathered an illegitimate black child" because of the daughter the McCains had adopted from Bangladesh). Second, when rapper Kanye West made his anti-Bush statement, he was in fact roundly criticized by people from both sides of the aisle. Third, there's a big difference between the rantings of a rapper and the incessant hateful comments of a supposed news commentator with a permanent platform. I don't personally believe that George Bush is racist, but I do believe that many in the Republican Party are, especially in the fringe. The Republican Party has intentionally appealed to this group since the 1960s, when Strom Thurmond and the rest of the Southern Democrats defected to the Republicans because of opposition to Johnson's civil rights program (see, for example, GBI and the Willie Horton campaign). This crass approach is a big part of what keeps racism from dying out as it should. Glenn Beck is a continuation of that fine Republican tradition, but at a new and dangerous nadir.
Okay, It is apparent that you didn't even know about the "rapper" who said Bush "hated Black people" until it was brought up to compare vitriol. If you had been knowledgeable you would know that there was outrage. Secondly, one act of "stupidity" is no excuse for another. You should apologize for your igggnorance.
Beck has an interesting family history. His mother and a brother both committed suicide. Beck also has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse. In this respect and others beck is allot like Limbaugh. Men who have suffered permanent damage to their brains from their addictions.
He seems quite emotionally unstable to me. I never cared to know much about his family history because he's just silly but that makes sense that he is obviously disturbed in some way if you look at what he went through in his young life.
Not to be dismissive of the things he says. He truly means that stuff it just comes out more distorted from Beck because he's extra distorted. He catching up to Limbo really fast and he's gonna end on on AM or satellite radio like his buddy Limbo the other addict.
First he says Obama hates white people then he says he doesn't think Obama dislikes white people but he attended Rev. Wright's church? No no no. Dont say something like that and then back off and try to allude to Rev. Wright. I think he knows he messed up. He's accusing Barack Obama of hating his whole family. The one he knows well. The one that raised him.
LOL! For the life of me I cannot understand this strategy.
Don't try to understand it. It is too irrational.
This is no longer a laughing matter. The pernicious speech that spews from Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, et al. on a daily basis should no longer be tolerated. It is just this type of vile bombastic rhetoric, with absolutely no facts to back it up, that incites extreme acts such as the assassination of Dr. George Tiller. These venomous hate-mongers must be stopped before it's too late. The only way is to boycott the sponsors of these programs until they pull their advertising dollars and until the CEO's announce they have done so. This culture of hate and racism by the Republicans, the Fox News outlet, and right-wing talk jocks must be stopped. Anything less could have dire consequences for this country. Be a citizen first, not a consumer!
I agree with Heddi. Why in the US do you allow this sort of pernicious, vicious and factually incorrect garbage on the radio and TV. I mean, how far down the sewers do we need to go before there are some media & journalistic rules that say enough is enough.
In other western countries this simply would not be allowed. It makes the US look so bad.
Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are funny things. You can't allow them and then whine when you hear and read what you don't want to. If you allow it for yourself and other "truth-tellers," then you have to allow it for people with opinions that are repugnant.
But I guess other nations don't get that. Huh?
Beck, Limbaugh, O'Reilly... all obnoxious purveyors of shock schlock.
Ignore 'em. Don't watch them and boost their ratings.
BTW. Sam Stein is hot.
What happened to all these white guys being patriotic and showing respect for the President of the United States of America? The way people have been talking about our President has been unbelievable to me. If a Cambridge cop would have thrown one of George Bush's or Bill Clinton's friends in jail under false pretenses, the department would have bent over backwards to fix the situation out of respect for the President. The officer would probably be chastised and suspended whether right or wrong. But now people demand the President apologize for his remarks? I'm not saying the former was right but it's a marked difference in how so many people feel it is ok to be disrespectful to the President of the United States which would simply not be tolerated at this level in the past. That comes down to racism. These ridiculous birthers are the tip of the iceberg. Barack Obama is our President and I'm disgusted at the lack of respect he gets from these despicable commentators. Where is the outrage at their unpatriotic behavior?
There's plenty of outrage. Pay attention.
YESSS!! excellent points. i agree verily
Your post is so correct!! Excellent and very well said shiningstar1!!!
