In remembrance of the 4,000 brave men and women who sacrificed everything for us -- and the two men who would continue this great tragedy, despite the cost to our soldiers, our military, and our nation.

to redrover, manueltrans, and the other hypocrites -- do you screech how it's "poor taste" that the Bush klan makes sure there's no images of flag-draped coffins for the corporate media to show?
No. I try not to screech too much and don't usually point to other peoples behavior to justify my own. That would be hypocrisy. You should have looked that word up before you posted a comment.
Yeah, I'm the hypocrite. I'm a vet and we're talking about my wife's family members who are included in this obscene image and I'm the hypocrite. Maybe in your parallel universe. Anything goes as long as it makes your political point. Why don't you go protest at a funeral.
Vet here too. Freedom of speech in all it's forms even the ugly ones were what we served to protect.
God Bless your wife's family who are repersented here.
PLEASE, Read what Karen Kwiatkowski had to say about her time at the Pentagon and the run up to the war. Her words will open your eyes to how hard people are trrying to let others know our country has been hijacked and we are in an illegal war.
Presently the U.S. is repeating history. Remember Japan invading China ? Not much different .
Philosophi calPotato:
You just don't get it do you? Respect for others is not a relative thing. As long as the majority of Americans continue see this sort of thing coming from the left, you will continue to see Republicans running the country. I know you don't understand. I'm sorry. Trying to explain disrespect to many of you here is like trying to explain the color blue to my dog.
as long as Americans are dumb enough to get outraged over Obama's pastor, and this mosaic; Americans deserve to get the RepugliKKKans and 100 more years of war.
Lucky we have smart, thoughtful people like you looking out for us.
Look, I understand your anger. I've been sitting here trying to put my finger on whether or not this picture should have been created because it is offensive - on a whole number of levels. But unfortunately, the message behind it, that people have died and that Bush/McCain have laughed and belittled the situation are true, and it's the most offensive thing of all because it is true. It's 100% disturbing to me that they don't hold the soldiers they are (or will be) in command of in the highest regard. Instead they feel that they can use and abuse them since they "volunteer ed." Bullshit. They do not get to throw soldiers lives away simply because they volunteered. Yes this picture is offensive. If my Dad's picture was in it, it would just be salt in the wound. But if it gets people talking and acting to prevent further injustice at the hands of these horrible men, then it might actually be worth it. Sure, politics shouldn't be a part of a soldiers life, but when it comes down to it, they fight and die for Bush's political vision wheter they like it or not. So politics are involved wheter WE like it or not. Sometimes the truth is offensive. Sometimes it should be offensive to get people to understand. That's the beauty of the 1st Amendment in all it's terrible glory. So no, I can't despise this mosaic. Not if it's true. Even when the truth does hurt.
Getting people to "think" is almost always the excuse for doing this sort of thing. These days "artists" poop on stage for the very reasons you just put forward. Jack Nicholson recently said that extremism is merely preaching to the choir and only further alienates those whose minds you wish to win over. You are certainly correct, it has caused people to talk. They are speaking in terms of disgust and contempt. Not at Bush, this only delighted the choir. Everyone else is disgusted with the sophomoric, over the top way the message was presented. It disgusts almost everyone. It makes democrats look bad. People have been made to think alright. They think less of us as democrats and some democrats who have seen this are quite likely to vote republican as a result. Good job. If we as a party don't self moderate.. . we will self destruct.
That's nice. I'm glad you understand our anger and that father's pain.
Too bad you don't have the decency to give a damn.
Their needless deaths come from the right, the use of their picture for a political purpose comes from the left, and it's the LEFT you have a problem with. What does that say about you?
I suppose that it says that I care and respect the feelings of people like the father, half way down this page, who lost his son and is deeply offended that his son was used this way. Decency transcends party. At least it ought to.
Nico should be extremely proud of his ability to use images of our brave and honorable fallen to make a cheap political statement. Shame on him and on HuffPo.
But OK to use the LIVES of our brave and honorable fallen to make profits for Exxon and Haliburton, I guess. Just don't you lefties dare remind us of it.
Maca, you have a serious reading comprehension issue.
Please be specific, where did this comparison come up except in your twisted, angry, partisan, little mind?
Great job, Nico.
Next you should do a mosaic of the 11,200 people who died during the war right here in the US because some dumbass was on their cellphone. http://www .livescien ce.com/tec hnology/05 0201_cell_ danger.htm l
What does that have to do with this? Can't get off the "hook" that easily!
...Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Tenet, Powell, Chalabi, Rice and Clinton, the only Democrat to legitimize the al Qaeda-Iraq connection.
"In remembrance of the 4,000 brave men and women who sacrificed everything for us..."
That picture? It's "déjà vu all over again."... http://www .boingboin g.net/2004 /04/06/bus h-photomos aic-of-.ht ml
They remind me of a couple of ghouls!!!!! Getting their jollies over someone else's terror!
why didn't the iraqi's depose hussein themselves?
easier said than done. the same could be said for us in regards to our despotic ruling elite. they didn't do it because of fear and being indoctrinated (just like we are) to believe that he or any other person somehow has the right to impose his will on others through force (most americans believe the same thing).
Unfortunately, "Zrated" is correct.
Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Perle, Feith et al all apparently thought they could force Democracy on Iraq, Also, that plan likely included the new embassy and the enduring bases. But apparently they never, ever thought that the turnover / changeover to Chalabi could last more that six weeks.
The key phrase there is, "...they never, ever thought.." I guess it's too much for republicans to expect their leaders to think. That could lead to intelligent decisions that the base can't understand.
i think they thought it out quite well. their plan to destroy a foreign country and the u.s. economy in order to gain wealth for the merchants of death from the backs of dead americans and iraqis is working perfectly. it's a mistake to assume that any of this was carried out for any other reason. doing good for anyone other than the politically connected, parasitic, ruling class was never anything more than a sick joke.
Almost no one in this country is in favor of this war, including myself and we all agree that the current administration has done a bad job of it. There are people on the right who are found of using the expression "Bush Derangement Syndrome". I used to laugh at that but now that I have read these comments, I can see that it's true. It's obvious that the general consensus here is that it's OK to do or say anything at all, at the expense of anyone else' s feelings, pain or loss, to express their hatred of Bush.
Nico: Good on you Mate !
It is disgusting to use the faces of our brave who have given everything in service to this nation. Nico should be ashamed.
great observation, I have been saying this for a long time.
it's called "freedom of speech" and "artistic expression" -- stop whining and close your web browser if you don't like the picture.
And pointing out that it is slime is our right. Thanks
Isn't that CUTE! And sooooooo artistic. Bravo! The artist gets my vote for 'picture of the year' with LIFE magazine.
Nearly 4,000 American service members and about 100,000 Iraqis (most of them in the suicide bombings for which al-Qaida has become infamous) have been killed since March 19, 2003. Has it been worth it? Iraqis apparently think so. Last week ABC and the BBC released results of a poll conducted in Iraq last month in which 55 percent of Iraqis said their lives were going well, up from 39 percent last August. Forty-nine percent of Iraqis think the U.S. invasion was justified, up from 37 percent in August.
And 75% of them want us the hell out. How is it fair to force them into becoming a Democracy when we refuse to listen to the majority of the people there?
