In remembrance of the 4,000 brave men and women who sacrificed everything for us -- and the two men who would continue this great tragedy, despite the cost to our soldiers, our military, and our nation.

I read post after post condemning the war, condemning the administration and strongly advocating the use of someone else's child for the purpose of a political statement. Many here saying we need even more of this to get people off their butts and do something about this situation. It's all a lot of hot wind and cowardly blather. I haven't read a single comment from you folks about what you are doing about it. Except... applauding a lack of decency and human civility towards the dead and tossing about a load of silly impotent vitriol.
I spent the weekend registering Democratic voters in Philadelphia, in the thought/hope/theory that an administrative change in Washington is what will change this horror.
I agree and hope so too. Nice to run into a citizen occasionally. Thank you .
I'm going to vote for Barak Obama and every other Democrat who is up for (re)election who says they'll withdraw. And if there are Democrats out there who will not be advocates of withdrawal, then I will take away my support and give it to a candidate who will. I will also convince my friends and family to do the same. I will call, write, and email my elected representatives to let them know what my thoughts and concerns are and I will go demonstrate and even get arrested if I have to. I have already joined MoveOn.org, the ACLU, various other activist groups and sign petitions as they come up and contribute with my hard earned money. I will also continue to exercise my Constitutional right to criticize my government and help expose their mistakes and lies which is a core American tradition and the truest pinnacle of freedom. I will always treat our soldiers with the upmost respect, and not demean them by belittling their sacrifice. And most importantly, I will not pretend that those 4,000 soldiers are just numbers and not human beings with faces and families who have suffered for reasons as yet undefined by our leadership. I will continue to ponder the reasons for these sacrifices, and act when I find the reasons seriously lacking as I do here. How about you?
I agree. I am a registered democrat who votes, writes letters and makes phone calls when I'm pissed at my elected officials. I placed myself in harms way for this country for my entire adult life and came away 100% disabled. I want to puke when I read comments that amount to no more than biased, nasty vitriol in defense of USING our dead soldiers for a political statement. There is no moral equivalence Just damned well let them be..
Good post Phil. I try to do exactly as you do. In addition I encourage everyone to volunteer to help in the campaigns of like minded candidates by donating time and money whenever possible.
Obama is not going to do anything.Keep following sheep.
You either haven't read all the posts here - or on other articles - and I suspect that is the case as you appear to be either a new user or a one shot account created for posting here based on the fact that this is the only article you have commented on according to your profile - or you don't understand the purposes and uses of these boards.
1) What does "applauding a lack of deceny" mean? People here, in other words, are praising the administration for their callous attitude toward the dead?
Decency... not treating with disrespect the children of other people to make your own political points and shots at people or situations you don't like. Related to empathy, courtesy, having feeling for others besides yourself and your own interests... Hope you can try to understand.

To bad we don't have the pictures of the innocent Iraqi's that died so we could have a picture with Cheney, rumsfeld, condi, et al.
That photo would be so large it would have to include the entire administration. But I don't know that the Iraqis would appreciate it.
This should be the cover of this year's Exxon Mobil annual report.
Every pro-war politician should have a large copy of this on their office walls.
we should have one too. we voted these people in base on experience and patriotism and what other test Senator's Obama must aspire to over come, after we have beaten him to a blood mess, we expect him to service us without ever considering taking the money and run like all the other did.
Speak for yourself. I did not vote for Bush. I never supported the war in Iraq.
I cannot see because of the tears in my eyes.
These faces are the faces of someone's son, daughter, husband, wife, father, mother, sibiling and friend. And what does Cheney say, SO, they voluntered!
They did volunteer and proudly so. Does your disagreement with this war and dislike of the administration justify using the image of someone's son, daughter, husband, wife, father, mother, sibling and friend, in a nasty, partisan, political statement?
"nasty, partisan, political" - what is?
Try doing some research about what STOP-LOSS is.
Have you ever heard of faulty equipment, lack of proper armor, etc? Blown up with our ammunition that we supplied Iraq when they fought Iran. Oh, yes, everything is just so black and white, isn't it?
Bush/ and (so)Cheney are the standards of patriotism. They past the test and added new one too.

The real tragedy is our complicity in the loss of these fine young men and women.
It makes me cry. My husband and I always respectfully watch the pictures that appear at the end of The PBS Newshour. It's always very sad to see their faces, some smiling, some sad, some proud and some looking the worse for wear. When the young people appear, I am heartbroken. When the older soldiers appear, I think of the many years they've served and wonder why they had to die now. When women's faces appear, I am shaken.
Wonder if the pictures of every baby that is slaughtered here in the United States would make you cry.I doubt it.It must be terrible to be tied to losing in Iraq to gain political power. My country is better then that and that is why President Mccain will be elected!
Funny you didn't mention the babies in Iraq slaughtered in an illegal invasion. Is it just white babies your worried about?
how deeply moving and tragic!
what a waste of so much youth...
all so a few old farts could rake in millions of dollars.

I'm a 63 year old man. It made me weep!
It made me THINK..
It is disgusting to use the faces of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this nation for political purposes. You should be ashamed.
Hey, Nico. I think your mosaic is awesome and very sad. I posted it in my journal, and someone was concerned that some of these people's family members might not approve of the use of the images in this way. I'm just wondering if you have permission to use the images, or are they from the public domain? Not trying to criticize you, but it does seem like an appropriate question. Keep up the good work. It's time to get the eff out of this war.
A tragic milestone passed by Iraq itself less than a month into the war.
So many of us have to share some of the guilt for these crimes. We did not stop Bush. We did not stop this monster either.

It is not to late to impeach Bush and begin to face reality. We owe the Iraqis their freedom (from us) and reconstruction money. We need to let go of their oil and deal with our many many problems here at home.
Cheney becomes the president. I think it has to be a package deal, Then you get Nancy P.
If we get out of Iraq now, 95 years from now it will be a distant memory like pearl habor is now
30 years from now it will be like Vietnam is now - just fine. On the other hand, if we stay the way McCain wants us to, 95 years from now we'll be fighting a global war against the entire Muslim population of the earth. Oh--I forgot. Right wingers think that is just fine.
There they are. Unfortunate that their faces are made up of the innocent dead. And we continue to have to look at them!
I guess....well, I guess that could be classified as art.
Little morbid for my tastes though. Not only does it show 4,000 dead people but it also forces me to look upon the image of the Chimp and his lackey. It's like the trifecta of suck.
