The Times They Are A-Changin': Vegan Thanksgiving Recipes (SLIDESHOW)

Posted: 11/22/11 03:12 PM ET

Traditions set apart Holidays from any ordinary day of the year, but all traditions start somewhere and they're not immune to change. Thanksgiving is one such example that has come a long way from its religious roots to its modern consumerist incarnations of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Through all these changes, food has remained the cornerstone of Thanksgiving celebrations, by acting as the catalyst that draws family and friends together. Good food is a Thanksgiving tradition worth preserving.

These delicious, plant-based recipes may be a sign of the changing times, but they still embody the spirit and essence of Thanksgiving. Add them to your menu this year and they'll be a part of your holiday stories, memories and traditions for years to come.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is the perfect time for a show-stopping, elegant vegan entrée that happens to be healthy too (which means more room for pumpkin pie!).

I love the idea of using roasted, pureed shallots in gravy. I might have to try that. And all these recipes are very creative. I tire so much of people asking "So are you roasting a Tofurky this Thanksgiving? *chuckles". No thanks, babycakes. I can do much better than that!

Hey you my lovely gypsy -- when I heard Autumn Leaves by Eric Clapton I thought to send the link to you right away. I love it when musicians do something unexpected and with so much feeling, as Eric does here so sweetly.

I dunno, but I think some of the rockers are more attractive as they mature. What do you think? I didn't much like Clapton or Springsteen or ... but I think they are great today! Maybe they are mellowing, or maybe I'm not!

What was happening in Seoul? Did you protest the free trade agreement? Did you sing?

What are we having for dinner Thursday? I'll bring the sweet potato pie with real whipped cream.

Love my gypsynomad --
DW

I completely agree with you, wow, I love this version as I always loved the one with Nat King Cole, never know Eric could sing like that with so much depth and feelings. This one is for save as my friend DW. I agree completely about mature singers in being more attractive ( for being mellow) .Not long ago I heard Manilow sinigng "Mindy" on live TV, and I thought that was the best version I ever heard, he sang with so much depth ! Any ~singer~ should sing pitch perfect with or without training in their teens even before, then slowly the maturity and depth comes with their singing.
