I know it's not a great job. And I know you didn't like it the first time. But that was because of Bill and Hill. They won't be there. I will.
Here's the deal: we'll redefine the job. I know, I know -- everyone says this, but I mean it. I'll throw every power in my possession behind you and together we'll attack global warming, save the environment, and create a twenty-first century energy policy. We'll be partners in every way.
In return, you'll be vice president of the United States and everything I need in a running mate:
You're white.
You're experienced.
You're older than I am and younger than John McCain.
You're qualified to be president, and yet I have no fear of being upstaged by you.
You were right on Iraq.
You're from the South.
You have an Oscar, an Emmy and a Nobel Prize.
And more than any politician, you're an exemplar of change because you changed yourself.
What about it, Al?

Carol
This is my dream ticket
Obama/Gore 08
Personally, I would love to see Al Gore on the ticked with Obama.
Where is the petition? We want Al. The best ticket, Obama/Gore.
Nice try Nora, but this is real life, not fiction. Al Gore is the biggest disappointment in the history of Democratic Presidential politics! That said I would vote for him as President, over Obama or Hillary, in a minute and so would enough people to create a landslide.
And all it would have taken was a little push from the Democratic power and money brokers early on saying, "AL WE GOTTA WIN THIS TIME, WAY TOO MUCH IS AT STAKE. WITH YOUR NOBEL PRIZE AND OSCAR AND EMMY, YOU'RE A SHOE IN AND WE CAN'T TAKE CHANCES ON A BLACK MAN OR A WOMAN". PLUS AS PRESIDENT YOU CAN DO A WHOLE LOT MORE TO SAVE THE PLANET THEN AS A PRIVATE CITIZEN!
But nobody did. The Democrats took the hands down favorite off the table just as Pelosi took impeachment off the table. I'm a life long Democrat, and will vote for Obama. But this is a party that doesn't know how to win, how to lead or how to stand up to Bullys!
If the Republicans win in Nov. It will be Al's fault again.
Thats bullsh*t! If the dems lose, its because they overlooked a dream ticket. Gore and Edwards would have been a dynamite team. But John Edwards' campaign ran out of money and Al Gore is too busy saving the planet and is probably very reluctant to expose his family to the nasty, vitriolic garbage that the rethugs are starting already. Cant blame him; if you dont learn from bitter experience, you're a fool. Al Gore is no fool!
At this point, Obama is the dems only hope. I hope he's smart enough to pick a winner for his veep. (It cant be a woman either. Thats the surest way to lose! Male voters would NEVER vote for a black man AND a woman on the same ticket.) Its going to be real interesting.
He'd be great but probably isn't interested. I think he should tag Gary Hart.... He's brilliant, right on Iraq, progressive/forward thinking, definite gravitas when it comes to the economy and foreign affairs and he's from Colorado. The only negative when he ran was "Monkey Business" and what can "they" do with that? He's still married to Lee after 40 years. I guess you could say he was an elitist b/c he's so well educated - is there really something wrong with that?
Gary Hart could have been a great president. That testosterone, boy it kills a lot of great politicians.
Gee, Nora, that's not even believable satire.
What make you think that Ms Ephron is doing satire? The lady has years of experience in using subtle means to influence people. She won't boast of it but she has the knack of selling her ideas by getting you to think that her ideas are really your ideas & that you thought of it well before she suggests her ideas to you. In the event that you're confused, that is also the way she uses rhetoric. Ms Ephron doesn't care if she gets credit for 1 of her ideas as long as her idea is used successfully.
here here.
why would Mr. Gore want to place himself and his family through that crap again. Look at how happy he and Tipper look. Let him enjoy his life in peace.
Amen to that.
This is a humor piece, n'est-ce-pas?
There are three reasons to name somebody your running mate. The most important is that the person will make a good president in 8 years, or (hopefully not) sooner. Our current VP was clearly not chosen on this basis, but most recent VPs and running mates were.
. and is the race so desperate that he needs to push this button?
The almost as important reason is that the person will serve some important and useful (thought not really constitutionally defined roll in your administration. Our current VP most strongly exemplifies this. In fact your claim that everybody says they will redefine the job ignores the fact that our current administration really did redifine it.
The third reason is that the running mate will help the candidate get elected. In a perfect world this would be by far the least important of the three, but one gets the impression that in recent years it has usually been the most important.
This appears to be the only reason you are pushing Al Gore, Ms. Ephron. After all, this is the only one where his color and his age and his regionality come into play. Even experience seems to be about getting elected. Does Obama need an experienced VP to govern or just to win.
So the question is... is Gore the best running mate to win him the election..
President Gore should head the new cabinet position, Department of Energy Policy.
Do I need to say more?
Amen to that.
Even the presidency at this point would be a demotion for Al Gore. I wouldn't expect him to accept the number 2 spot behind Obama, even if it was offered (which it won't be).
This would be a dream come true.

Dream on....
The trouble is Gore has to much knowledge and experience for VP role now. He would be wiser to give him a cabinet position that is down his Nobel Prize alley.
Job too small for Al
If you really want to know what Obama's problem is in Tennessee. It's Al Gore.
