What About It, Al?

I know it's not a great job. And I know you didn't like it the first time. But that was because of Bill and Hill. They won't be there. I will.

Here's the deal: we'll redefine the job. I know, I know -- everyone says this, but I mean it. I'll throw every power in my possession behind you and together we'll attack global warming, save the environment, and create a twenty-first century energy policy. We'll be partners in every way.

In return, you'll be vice president of the United States and everything I need in a running mate:

You're white.

You're experienced.

You're older than I am and younger than John McCain.

You're qualified to be president, and yet I have no fear of being upstaged by you.

You were right on Iraq.

You're from the South.

You have an Oscar, an Emmy and a Nobel Prize.

And more than any politician, you're an exemplar of change because you changed yourself.

What about it, Al?

Nope. Good idea in theory. Then something happens to some candidates: they become stiff, unreal, scripted, in a word "phoney," even if they're not. Gore is definitely one of those -- real and genuine UNTIL he becomes a candidate (on the other side, Bob Dole was like that, too). Let's prevent sleeping dogs from lying.

Well, for one thing they both proved themselves to be poor vote getters. And did you watch Richardson on the stump and in debates? I couldn't figure out how he ever racked up such an impressive resume. Besides as Energy Secretary he threw the Asian scientest to the wolves.

Biden, on the other hand, did well in debates. Very knowledgeable and even succinct, proving he can make a course correction. However he got no credit for either.

Ephron is indulging in a bit of revisionism.

"And I know you didn't like it the first time. But that was because of Bill and Hill. "

Not true. Gore was an active vice president, who enjoyed a very good relationship with Bill Clinton, and was highly regarded for hic contributions. It was only during and after th eimpeachment that the relations were a bit strained. This resulted in Gore using very little of Bill Clinton's help for his own campaign. Had he done so, we would hav ebeen right now, going through the last few months of a Gore second term.

Al Gore is too mature a leader to play second fiddle to an immature, inexperienced, ill-preapared Barack Obama. It is true that Obama needs adult supervision at this time, but he should look elsewhere for it. I feel the same way with a Hillary Clinnton accepting the Veep spot.

Just who says that Obama is an immature, inexperienced, and ill-prepared. He is no such thing!

He beat the Clinton machine and her big donors, didn't he?

When he wins the Presidency, then if you don't like his policies, then bitch. But these so called Dems who call him so immature, a light weigh, and etc. vote for the insane old coot and we will be at WAR for the rest of our lives and never dig out of this debt that Bush has ruined this country with.

Actually, I think McCain loves his country and has its best interest in his heart. Malign him for his age, but he at least has some qualifications and experience........

You are right on the money, pkrishna. Some people have terrible memories.

Why in the world would Gore play bridesmaid to someone with only a fraction of his accomplishments.

I'm fully behind Sen. Obama, but I'm getting sick of all of the Clinton bashing. Fortunately, Obama is much smarter than Nora Ephron and her ilk. All of this while John McCain is out there dictating the direction of the campaign.

Gen. Clark was right, also, about McCain. Obama shouldn't have denounced his comments. Why are we Democrats always made to look like pussies. Crashing a few planes in the Navy, and being captured by the Vietnamese does not qualify a person for the office of President. By all accounts, McCain was a shitty pilot. He's still a patriot. He still deserves the honors that he is bestowed. He was just a terrible student and pilot. Why not point that out.

Cheney was Bush's mentor and American voters accepted it.

I think that American voters would be encouraged to know that an experienced hand was in the White House.

Today Americans want results. They want competence. They want managers who can do the job. Obama and Gore are both clearly very competent and qualified.

Thanks for writing that Ms. Ephron.

Mr. Gore knows better than anyone what's involved in being Vice President. He expanded that position during his tenure and we've seen Cheney turn the job into a regency.

If Mr. Gore's number one ambition is solving global warming, where is he best positioned to provide leadership? Private or Public sector?

Arguably the world is waiting for the United States to lead the way.

If Mr. Gore took the job of V.P. with a mandate to focus on the issue, I can't see how he'd could find a more powerful platform.

Surely this has all been thought about and talked about behind closed doors. One hopes.

We could do far, far, far, worse - both with the environment, and as a excellent back-up for President Obama.

I suspect Al wouldn't take the job - but I do hope somebody inside Obama's vetting party bothers to ask him anyway.

It'd be great if Al would be Barack's running mate. For it'd be a terrific way to "force" him into debate on his global warming scam.
He would not be able to defend his defective product, and that'd expose his snake oil once and for all.
Then maybe we could get on with feeding, clothing and providing shelter for Americans...AND...stave off world hunger.

'won walking away?' talk about revisionist history! try, 'could not clinch the nomination without the help of the superdelegates who selected him'...it probably doesn't test well with focus groups, but at least it's accurate...

Gore reinvented himself as a non-politician, otherwise you wouldn't be asking him. It's easy to take a stand on the environment or Iraq when you have no intention of running for office again. Gore-the-politician was never worth much. Let's keep Al the way he is.

John Coleman, the founder of The Weather Channel, is a vocal skeptic of the anthropological global warming theory MIGHT sue Gore but don't count on it. He might also sue The Weather Channel which he founded, NASA, the 170 or so nations which adopted the Kyoto Protocol, the IPAA, the United Nations, the European Union and possibly George Bush now that he is talking out of the other side of his mouth.

"“[I] have a feeling this is the opening,” Coleman said. “If the lawyers will take the case – sue the people who sell carbon credits. That includes Al Gore. That lawsuit would get so much publicity, so much media attention. And as the experts went to the witness stand and testified, I feel like that could become the vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”

And so it is Gore who wants publicity? Give me a break. How many people say that , by God, I am going to sue, only to enter the real world and find out they are just spouting hot air.

Carbon credits was first introduced at the Kyoto meeting in 1997. Gore was not a party to that meeting. A large number nations and companies are involved in carbon trading.

After being kicked out of The Weather Channel Coleman became a weather anchor in New York.

We all know that these weather anchors are the real experts.
