I know it's not a great job. And I know you didn't like it the first time. But that was because of Bill and Hill. They won't be there. I will.
Here's the deal: we'll redefine the job. I know, I know -- everyone says this, but I mean it. I'll throw every power in my possession behind you and together we'll attack global warming, save the environment, and create a twenty-first century energy policy. We'll be partners in every way.
In return, you'll be vice president of the United States and everything I need in a running mate:
You're white.
You're experienced.
You're older than I am and younger than John McCain.
You're qualified to be president, and yet I have no fear of being upstaged by you.
You were right on Iraq.
You're from the South.
You have an Oscar, an Emmy and a Nobel Prize.
And more than any politician, you're an exemplar of change because you changed yourself.
What about it, Al?

I think its a great idea and have been saying so for a while. It eliminates the experience/qualification argument. Some on here say Gore is a 'boring speaker,' and yet when he speaks the world seems to listen. For those who say, 'who wants a second chance at being second,' I'd say that this new administration needs to be more about service than politics and mere prestige. No-one on the stage has Al Gore's qualifications and the fact that he has become so non-political makes him all the better for such a task as we face. If something were to happen to Obama, Gore would be a great leader who is fully up to speed on the issues.
He would be better suited to be Secretary of Energy.
Joe Biden is a good choice if Al decides against.
Nora, what are you thinking about? You can't be serious! What an insult to suggest playing second fiddle to someone who is not even in the Al Gore league. While I will vote for B.O., I do question his gravitas and pray he'll be able to step up to the plate and prove me wrong. We can't afford to wait for anyone to grow into the office.
Joe Biden is...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...boring. After Gore, it has to be Jim Webb.
Web has a problem with women. Joe Biden is anything but boring when he speaks on the subjects that he is enormously knowledgeable about, i.e. Foreign Relations and Defense. He and Luger have developed a strong mutual respect and a very successful across the isle working relationship. I would love to see him in the cabinet, but would be sorry to see that great working relationship between the majority and minority leaders of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
And we sure don't want someone who is boring, no matter what their qualifications!
Let's just all take a vote on "Entertainment Tonight" to see who it should be. Right after we all vote on Lindsey Lohan's new hairstyle.
Get a clue people it is a bit of a popularity contest...and if Obama doesn't win it doesn't matter quite so much who is #2. Don't be so pious and GET A CLUE!
No way is this ever going to happen. Al could have been the nominee if he wanted to earlier in the campaign. He passed, so why now be the Veep - again?

Problem is, he's been there, done that. And we need someone who can bring in -- and win -- his own home state. In this case, it must be a big, electoral vote-heavy, swing state: VA, PA, OH, FL.
Al Gore would be great to be the guru of the Dept of Energy (not run it) Give it prominence and advice to Obama. The whole world needs to clean up it's act, not just the US , so Gore needs to continue his world energy and environmental programs.
Obama has done a hell of a job on his own. Everyone wants to second guess him. He has the judgement to pick his own VP.
I'm getting sick of listening to everyone who wants him to kiss Bill/Hill's ass and her supporters and theri big donors. The last time I looked, he won the danm primary back in Feburary. She ran up her debt and threw "the kitchen sink" at him with fuel for the insane old coot to use against him.
Obama's donors didn't donate their money because he lacked judgement or foresight as with the Iraq War.
I think the American people are going to be surprised at his warm reception abroad and then maybe we can all see how much he is liked around the world and how much the world is hungry for a change and not another Bush III.
"Obama has the judgment to pick his own VP." Hear, hear! It's fine if people want to play it like a game, but when they start trying to pressure Obama, I think they're making a mistake. There's a lot of work to do. Obama has said several times that his most important consideration in choosing a Vice President is that the person chosen be a good president if something happened to him. Obama feels it as a weighty responsibility to choose his replacement if it became necessary. I love Abraham Lincoln, but he chose that person poorly. On his death Andrew Johnson became president. As a result, Lincoln's plan to reunite the country with compassion became Johnson's carpet baggers who created such anger, ill will and injustice that the name carpet bagger remains a term of derision in the country's language one hundred and forty three years later. None of us spend one on one time with these people. We can't see their eyes, hear the cadence of their voice, detect the presence or the absence of genuineness. Obama has much more information at his disposal than we do. How many times have we chosen a politician based on the public record he shows us and later discovered that we'd elected a scoundrel? Speaking of Duyba . . .
Awesome fit for all of the obvious reasons and some stated previously! Guess what else? It could have the net effect of keeping a potential right wing nut (racist), wood be, assassin in check since the end result would be A RAGING PISSED-OFF PRESIDENT AL GORE RUNNING THE SHOW (hum lets see, the “O” legacy continued, a greener planet with subsidized / rebate’ed solar homes, autos, etc., jailed neocons, a closed gitmo, war and oil profiteers in check and global good will for America once more). Yea, welcome to the alternate reality that should have been!
Now I know this may sound HARSH to some but in plain speak, Barack, please pick AL. He has much CRED and could keep you alive! Why? because right wing nuts and war/oil profiteers fear a potential Al Gore presidency more!!
"It could have the net effect of keeping a potential right wing nut (racist), wood be, assassin in check since the end result would be A RAGING PISSED-OFF PRESIDENT AL GORE RUNNING THE SHOW"
Excellent Point!!!! Obama should pick someone along these lines just for the reason you've given. Al Gore would be perfect. He's been there before and he could do so much more than he could have under the Clintons or as energy secretary.
Al Gore's electricity consumption, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, is up 10% from last year, when it was discovered that his house used 20 times more energy than the national average, and when, because of the backlash and for the VERY FIRST TIME, he outfitted that house with green devices. He pays his own company for carbon offsets, adding to the great fortune he has reaped in the area of the environment. "An Inconvenient Truth" was made from an old slide-show that had gathered dust in the Gore attic, because in his eight years as vice president and throughout the 2000 campaign, he never uttered a peep on the subject. Gore is a straw man indeed, and you don't think the Repugs would absolutely have him for lunch on his hypocrisy?!
Dear Nora,
It just isn't going to happen my dear.
Get over it....
Nora,
What's in it for Al? Seriously.
Are you saying Obama won't work against Global Warming unless Al's Veep? If Al is not veep and Obama will work on global warming anyway, again, what's in it for Al?
Gore has too much baggage. The media would eat him alive (again), and Obama would be tarnished by association.
And, he takes criticism like a prizefighter!
We need a vice-presidential candidate that actually responds to Republican attacks instead of shutting up like a good little lap dog, which is exactly what Gore did. He had his opportunity to campaign and he did not do it! He cares so much about this country and for us that he decided to shut up and be a good little Republican servant. We do NOT need this loser back on the ticket.
Forget it. It would mobilize the Right, for one thing. For another, he is the 'past." We need the future.
Now, that being said, I like Al Gore a lot; he must play a major role the task he has undertaken. Perhaps some position will be created that will be suitable in position and power.
You are absolutely right because Obama needs somebody as qualified as AL because he is completely and totally unqualified.
MILLION ARE RUSHING TO THE NORTH POLE TO SEE THE ICE BEFORE IT MELTS AWAY COMPETELY NEXT SUMMER !!!!
THIS INCEASE IN TRAFFIC MAY INCEASE THE MELTING AND IT COULD BE GONE BY SPRING.
If Mr. Gore decided to run on the ticket for Vice President, then
surely I could not vote that ticket. Why? Simply because if
Mr. Gore ran, that would prove him absolutely crazy!
I mean you could not vote for a crazy man, could ya?
The man has the world at his feet. He's happy and at peace.
Why in the hell would he want to give that all up,
UNLESS HE'S CRAZY!?
