While I am not exactly sure about the relevancy of the "bewitched" part of the title, I am comfortable with the "bothered and bewildered" nomenclature in describing my feelings about the "Bush Presidency," and what has happened to our country during his "administration."
America is in a great big mess in almost every aspect of our society, and has been put there by a dysfunctional President and his incredible team of sycophants.
I was encouraged to write this by a friend who is upset with Justice Clarence Thomas and his inadequacies that were shown in his horrid appearance on 60 Minutes.
Quoting from a New York Times editorial:
"The problem with Justice Thomas's book, "My Grandfather's Son," is that it nurses bitter grudges and throws brickbats at organizations and people who opposed his nomination and might well appear before the court. Some of his targets, like Senator Joseph Biden and Yale Law School, he mentions by name. Others, like the American Civil Liberties Union, are not attacked as directly, but it is not hard to connect the dots."
We deserve more and better then we are getting from a Supreme Court Justice. Who among us believes that he is from among "the best and brightest?"
I have worked in corporations for 50 years. I have been a victim of BBBBB type of managements for most of the time I have worked in a corporate environment. Sadly, the operative words that could describe the managements of many companies were "rampant duplicity, general cronyism, and broad spectrum ineptness (DIC)."
I am unable to find words to describe how screwed up everything is starting with the horrid wars we are in that appear to have no end to them, and the attack on our constitution by the President and his people.
Terror, Terror, terror, and then more terror, followed by we and only we will protect you.
Moving along, I continue to love the expression "no one died because Clinton lied," and I tried to create a new one concerning GWB, and his Father, and regrettably I have failed, and I therefore solicit suggestions from anyone who has an Idea in this area.
I also would like to compile "The George W. Bush Hall of Fame for Incompetents" that would include some "legacy" players from his Fathers administration.
I also solicit nominations from everyone, and will begin with a couple of my own. I will broaden the membership to include those who knew better, yet went along with the program anyway.
I would nominate Colin Powell for inclusion at the very top of a special list of those who knew better, yet were complicit with the President in taking us into this war and allowing it to continue. He could have been a hero to America and the world by opposing the forces that wanted us to go to war, and instead of doing that, he joined with the bad guys to sell the war. From my own insignificant business life, I do understand how difficult it is to speak truth to power if you wish to continue having the power that "they" have given you.
Before we begin the other list, in a special category where he sits head and shoulders above all others, we have Vice President Cheney. While he might be brilliant, his evil machinations and outright lying have set new standards for Executive Branch duplicity, Ineptness, and cronyism, (DIC), as well as being responsible for a few assorted Constitutional violations. He also appears to be the most responsible person for taking us into this horrid war in Iraq. He is a winner (or loser,) however you view it, in every category.
As I start the remainder of the list, I nominate Alberto Gonzales, who ranks near or at the top in DIC. Not many can excel in all three categories, yet "Berto" excels in all of them. Will we ever know what evil stuff he has been involved in while purportedly serving America?
Please help mankind by adding people's names to this list and please remember to include whether they are being nominated for duplicity, ineptness, or cronyism, or "all of the above."
Because you are all probably dying to know, here are some of the lyrics for the Rodgers and Hart song: Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.
I'm wild again, beguiled again,
A simpering, whimpering child again,
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I.
Couldn't sleep and wouldn't sleep,
When love came and told me I shouldn't sleep,
(or: Until I could sleep where I shouldn't sleep,
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I.
Lost my heart, but what of it?
He is cold, I agree
He can laugh, but I love it,
Although the laugh's on me.
I'll sing to him, each spring to him,
And long for the day when I'll cling to him,
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I
