These words are stolen directly from the Broadway production and film of My Fair Lady. The song is sung by Eliza Doolittle to a man who wants to be with her, and is reflective of her feeling for her mentor, Professor Henry Higgins. They don't exactly fit into my scenario, but I love them anyway.

I get words all day through;
First from him, now from you! Is that all you blighters can do?
Don't talk of stars Burning above; If you're in love,
Show me! Tell me no dreams
Filled with desire. If you're on fire,
Show me! Here we are together in the middle of the night!
Don't talk of spring! Just hold me tight!
Anyone who's ever been in love'll tell you that
This is no time for a chat! Haven't your lips
Longed for my touch? Don't say how much,
Show me! Show me! Don't talk of love lasting through time.
Make me no undying vow. Show me now!

I think of this lyric whenever I hear a Democratic candidate running for, or hoping to run for anything while equivocating about everything. It is not possible for me not to constantly think of Senator Kerry saying something like "I voted against it after I voted for it" or whatever, yada yada yada.

The Republicans have been in power all over the place, and they have done so much to screw up our great nation. What the not powerful Democrats should do under the circumstances is:

"...IF YOURE ON FIRE, SHOW ME."

The Democrats must shout their position wherever and whenever they have an opportunity to do so, and do it fearlessly, which could appear to be recklessly. Support each other in the process, as in some sort of "I'm fed up. And I'm not going to take it anymore" scenario.
It would be refreshing if the Democrats could mount an "in your face" campaign against the policies if this administration. If all of the Democrats would do this, how could Karl Rove deal with it? The Republicans have screwed up almost everything that they have touched, and the Democrats, or at least most of them just play a more or less complicit role with them.

How about these positions?

YES I AM AGAINST THIS HORRID WAR, AND IF ELECTED WE WILL END IT QUICKLY!

YES I WILL RAISE TAXES FOR THE WEALTHIEST 2% OF OUR COUNTRYMEN IN THAT OUR NATIONAL DEBT IS NEARING 9 TRILLION DOLLARS AND I DON'T WANT OUR CHILDREN AND GRANCHILDREN STUCK WITH A DEBT INCURRED BY OUR GENERATION!

YES I WILL END ALL CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATIONS, PERIOD!

YES I WILL NOT CONDONE TORTURE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

YES I WILL SUPPORT THE SUPRESSION OF TERRORISM, BUT I WILL NOT CONDONE CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATIONS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS!

YES I WILL RAISE THE MINIMUM WAGE!

YES I WILL RETURN OUR COUNTRY TO A POSITION OF RESPECT IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY!

YES I WILL INITITIATE DIRECT CONTACT WITH NORTH KOREA AND IRAN!

YES I WILL BE A UNITER AND NOT A DIVIDER, AND TO ME THIS IS NOT JUST A CAMPAIGN SLOGAN!
I WILL SPEAK TRUTH TO THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA, EVEN IF SUCH TRUTH HURTS ME POLITICALY!

YES I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT GAY AND LESBIAN MARRIAGE. ABORTION AND THE USE OF CONDOMS!

I WILL CONTINUE TO OPPOSE ORGANIZED PRAYER IN OUR SCHOOLS!

Sadly, all that the Democrats can do is use words, but they should not let the other guys indirectly intimidate them as they do to KEEP them SILENT!

The Republicans will vilify and "swift boat" everyone anyway so speak out with WORDS that are truthful, forceful, and direct.

Yes I attended parties given by Playboy as well as the Boy Scouts. I have wagered on sporting events, and have even had sex with different women before, during, and after college. I eat crackers in bed, and I like to watch Sponge Bob Square Pants. I have written books containing sexually explicit language, I did my best to stay out of the war in Vietnam, and I once employed an undocumented alien.

Words do matter, but deeds matter more. Getting into an ego driven war in Iraq, misleading the world and your countrymen as to the reasons, and then saying that even if you knew then what you know now you would have done it anyway deserves a loud and consistent Democratic reply of "are you guys nuts?"
In my opinion you will be vilified anyway, so why not speak the truth at all times, and let the bad guys try and use truth against you.

In other word, SCREW THEM!

The conventional wisdom would conclude that if the Democrats do what I suggest that they will guarantee their defeat. I would hope not.
