Sadly, John Edwards is a hypocrite and I blame him big time for that. It is very sad for me in that I respected him in so many ways, and I expected more of him.
Edwards must have known that he had a "sexual bulls eye" painted on his back, and like Clinton before him, his enemies would be looking to destroy him politically if they could, and now with his cooperation they have done just that.
Married or unmarried couples are obviously allowed to do whatever sexual activities are legal and acceptable to both of the parties. That does not imply that "fidelity" should be expected, but rather that the individuals public stance not be a critical one when observing the "sexual transgressions" of others.
When I was married, my sexual behavior was between my then wife and I, and not my management, my friends, or anyone else for that matter.
And now, on with the rest of the story.
So this Martian explorer returns to his planet and files a verbal report to the Martian High Council about what he had seen during his exploratory trip to planet Earth.
He gets around to the part of his report concerning life in general on Earth and he describes Earth and its people as a planet that tolerates killing, war, torture, starvation, stealing, racism and all of that really good stuff that he has seen happening during his undercover exploratory visit.
When he finally gets to the part about how reproduction is accomplished on Earth, he describes how sex is supposed to be limited to men "having sexual contact with women," and then only if they are old enough and if some member of a church or similar group says that it is OK for them to engage in sexual activity.
This is only acceptable following the recitation of "special words" spoken by the parties who are led along in the process by a member of the church or some sort of civil representative authorized to organize this weird ritual. This is called "a marriage" by the Earth people, and continues until one of the parties dies or says that they want "out of the arrangement."
The Martians are shocked when they find out if a man puts his penis into an "improper" vagina, (one not belonging to the women he is married to) that it is a sin, and a GREAT transgression, and there is as a rule a gigantic scandal surrounding the event if it is discovered by others.
As he continues his report, the Martian tells that it is similarly unacceptable for a woman to allow a penis not belonging to her husband into her vagina as well. The members of the Martian High Council are shocked, but as we know, Martians and other aliens are easily confused and disturbed.
Many or most Earthlings do put their "penises" into unauthorized vaginas and it is acceptable to society, but only if no one finds out about it. The Martian council has great difficulty understanding this part as well.
He continues by saying that one of the "big deal" Earth leaders got into trouble by putting his penis into the mouth of a woman to whom he was not married. His report continues by saying that he could not find this sexual transgression mentioned in the books of laws governing sexual conduct in the "Earth Book of Rules" outside of Texas, but that it had to be a big "no no" because of the uproar that it caused.
The Martian council was mystified when the report continued that the big deal Earth leader was not blamed for what he did with his penis, but rather because he did not tell anyone or everyone about the event, and when he was questioned about it he denied that he had done it. They wondered if he had put his penis is a strange woman's hand if the same furor would have occurred?
The chief Martian is furious with the reporting Martian and says to him "now let me understand this, earthlings are OK with killing, war, torture, starvation, and racism, yet if a man puts his penis into a WRONG vagina or mouth, society goes bonkers? That is inconceivable, and we now must send another group to visit planet Earth to correct your erroneous findings."
Morality is defined more or less as:
A system of ideas of right and wrong conduct, religious or Christian morality, virtuous conduct and the doctrine or practice of the duties of life, manner of living as regards right and wrong conduct and behavior.
Using this "benchmark," the Martians concluded that President Bush and Vice President Cheney are VERY moral individuals.
SURE THEY ARE!
Martians may not care about this stuff, but I certainly do.
The appropriate nature of my sexual activities should be determined by the laws of the State of California, my conscience, and my relationships with whomever, and not by any media people or any Church or self designated representative of GOD!
If I were running for public office, what I do with my "body parts that is legal is no one else's affair.
