I made a grievous error and watched a few moments of Mike Duncan, Chairman, Republican National Committee speak on, dare I say, the Fox News Channel and I was reminded for some demented reason of the lyrics to "September Song."
Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
but the days grow short when you reach September
when the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
one hasn't got time for the waiting game
Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
and these few precious days I'll spend with you
these precious days I'll spend with you.
A very sad and touching song made better when sung by Jimmy Durantee.
We have passed September which brought us Sarah Palin in all of her very articulate glory, a seven hundred Billion dollar "rescue" plan by a government that sees unemployment soaring and inflation looming. Chairman Duncan, the RNC head whose party brought us eight years of President Bush and his failures has the temerity to whine about Obama's ties to Tony Rezko. Tony Rezko?
When asked about Rezko many months ago Senator Obama answered: "Well, no, look, all of us have people in our lives who we meet, we get to know, in some cases form friendships with, who end up getting themselves into trouble or say things that we don't agree with. And... probably what's true is, because I haven't been in Washington as long as Senator Clinton or others that... I have not distanced myself from these people for as long a period of time as somebody more steeped in Washington politics might have.
But keep in mind, on all these issues, there is no allegations that I've done anything wrong, just as in the situation with Reverend Wright there is no allegation that I've said something that was inappropriate."
That certainly was a reasonable answer but not to the "big three" of McCain, Palin, and Duncan. It is because they are never looking for answers.
Major parts of the world are falling apart and Chairman Duncan is still raising the issue of Barack Obama's ties with Ayers who did horrid terrorist things when Obama was eight years old.
The days are certainly dwindling down to a precious few as our nation is struggling with two wars, ten trillion dollars in debt, banks and major companies failing, Chrysler and General Motors having merger discussions and this is what Chairman Duncan is talking about? I wonder how old Duncan was when President Bush violated the Constitution for the first time. He was older then eight I assume.
Here is a choice for everyone.
Pick your transgression. Which of the following is worse?
Paling around with Ayers and Rezko or paling around with a President who violated the Constitution and involved us in a horrid, unending war.
As a silly metaphor about distractions, I suggest the following: Over thirty five years ago, my company Screen Gems produced a Pilot entitled Here Come the Brides. A period piece set in the late nineteenth century.
My associate Herb Lazarus and I were to try and interest overseas buyers in purchasing the program. Sadly we noticed in the opening sequence, when the camera pulled back to give you a "long shot" of the set you could clearly see tire tracks in the mud made be the device holding the camera.
Herb and I had a set procedure during this part of the screening when one of us would start coughing loudly and the people in the screening room were distracted away from the screen and did not notice the tire tracks.
This distraction was silly, yet to us it was an almost acceptable thing to do.
What McCain, Palin, and Duncan are doing with their distractions is not at all acceptable. They all are fixated with changing the subject away from a failed eight year Bush presidency, and McCain's participation in it.
The days are dwindling and in a moment it will be November fourth and it can not happen soon enough for me. We can now elect that inexperienced African American, terrorist, peacenick, Ayers and Rezko-loving, socialist, taker-of-bribes who probably has dandruff, to the Presidency of our once great and once proud nation.
I have only one suggestion for Barack Obama if he does indeed become our President and he does have dandruff.
Use Head and Shoulders shampoo, unless the company who makes it has ties to Communists in China, or terrorists in Iran.
