My 28-year mostly monogamous marriage ended over 21 years ago. As soon as I realized that there was no reconciliation possible, I became a machine dedicated to the "business of dating."
As I entered my second year of "serial dating," I became aware of a woman who worked at MGM but was leaving the Company for another job. Her name: Dona Carol Harrison. Carol, about fourteen years my junior, knew all about my "serial dating" and when I asked her out she asked me if I was a womanizer. I replied that I wasn't exactly sure about the meaning of the word but in any event I probably was.
We dated on and off for a couple of years and ended up in a live-in relationship for a few years; we are still friendly and we speak about once a week.
Carol, the daughter of a fundamentalist Church of Christ Minister, was the seventh of eight children, and the only child to have gone to college [U of O], graduated, and then earned a Masters. She is very smart.
Early on in our relationship I went with her to Broken Arrow Oklahoma to a Hamilton [her mother's family] reunion held at the fashionable Luby's Cafeteria. It was great and I was probably the first Jew that most of them had encountered. One of her cousins said, "Why Norman, you're not the first Jew I ever met, my gynecologist in Tulsa is a Jew."
At some point in our relationship Carol, a very sophisticated woman said of some of her less educated people,' "Norman, you need to understand these people, they are just plain ignorant."
As I listened to those demonstrating in Washington I thought of what Carol had told me and I understood a good part of why they were there.
I loved it when some people were asked why they objected to the "Czars" appointed by Obama and they replied that they did not want any Russian Kings in our government and when one of the women was asked if she knew that Ronald Reagan had appointed a Czar, the woman almost died.
There were also many stating that "We want our country back," yet they were unable to explain what they meant other than by saying Obama is a Socialist.
The health care issue is another "biggie" for these people including some sort of objection to the idea that the President wants to "Pull the Plug on Grandma."
And now as usual, I slowly get to my point.
I do not believe that the people who "marched" are un-American or racists, but they do support what they have been told by the far right extremists.
As a creature of television and the internet I would suggest that the Democratic leadership give up trying to vilify the very "vilafiable" Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Beck and such and use television to tell these people the truth about things.
The DNC has the money, Hollywood has the talent, and the issues are not all that complex.
They could cleverly and honestly spend a few minutes explaining what is happening as it pertains to several issues that are misunderstood by these people. I suggest some or all of the following:
President Obama Cut Your Taxes
The Stimulus is Working
Medicare is a Government Program
Barack Obama is Not a Muslim
Barack Obama was Born in the United States
Barack Obama is not a Socialist
The Czars appointed by the President are no different than those appointed by President Bush and others.
The right-wing zealots are outraged by no taxation without representation. Where did that come from? Obama has cut taxes for 98.6% of working households.
The $787 billion stimulus package passed over the near-total obstructionism of Congressional Republicans is already paying dividends for the economy.
Most of all this should not ridicule anyone nor should it ever mention Ronald Reagan, or President Bush either.
No poking fun, no mention of Glenn Beck and all his nut case allies.
This is about teaching! Not making fun of these people!
The resultant "episodes" should be on television and the internet and be done as only the creators of content in Hollywood can do it. And they should do it sooner rather then later.

And where would your pieces air? The MSM has no interest in your themes or agenda. Or are you proposing the Democrats buy time on the air?

As a media person I would say something like "build it and they will come."
As a newsworthy item, who knows if it will be played.
Thanks for commenting.
