"In front of every silver lining there is a dark cloud."
I know that I am in deep trouble when I resort to quotes by Yogi Berra. One of my favorites that do not fit here in any way is "If you don't know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else." Yogi also was quoted as saying: "When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it."
56,376,672 Americans followed Yogi's advice Tuesday, and took the fork in the road and voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin.
Many millions voted as Republicans who supported the policies of Senator McCain.
Many others voted the way that they did as a function of their own belief system. These issues were mostly unspoken during the debates, yet they are the divisive issues of our times and are not either "discussable or reconcilable!" They are:
Abortion
The role of the Church and Prayer in School
Gun Control
Homosexuality
There are many who want these issues resolved one way and many that want them resolved another way. I put these differences into another category, and will say no more about them at this time.
The balance of this is directed to those who supported the Bush policies of wars, deficits, budget Imbalances, deceit, constitutional violations, deregulation, and Governor Sarah Palin.
In the Broadway musical Cabaret, the "Master of Ceremonies" played by Joel Grey tries to explain his love for a gorilla as he sings a song entitled "If You Could See Her Through My Eyes."
It is not possible for me to see Bush, Cheney, McCain, and Palin and the state of our nation through the eyes of many of these 56 million Americans who voted for "them.""I know what you're thinking--
You wonder why I chose her
Out of all the ladies in the world.
That's just a first impression--
What good's a first impression?
If you knew her like I do,
it would change your point of view...
How can I speak of her virtues?
I don't know where to begin:
She's clever, she's smart, she reads music,
She doesn't smoke or drink gin like I do.Yet when we're walking together,
They sneer if I'm holding her hand.
But if they could see her through my eyes,
Maybe they'd all understand.I understand your objection;
I grant you the problem's not small.
But if you could see her through my eyes,
She wouldn't look Jewish at all!"
Obama is all someone like me could want as a President, yet I wonder if he can "rescue" us from the deep abyss we now are in?
I certainly hope so.
