Backpfeifengesicht = Lieberman

What's Your Reaction?

Google the meaning of backpfeifengesicht and see if it doesn't evoke Joe Lieberman!!

You looked it up? See what I mean? What is it about that face? Would it evoke the same feeling if you didn't know who the man wearing it was, and what the man wearing it was thinking, and what the man wearing it was doing as a result of what he was thinking?

Of course. Because the smirking arrogance oozing from that face is all the assurance you need that whatever the man is thinking and doing cannot be good for you, your children, your friends, your children's friends, or anyone else you care about. You can thank the Germans for putting a word to your feelings when you think again about what's behind that face.

This was the the pinnacle of anger against Lieberman by an individual blogger, but there was once this thread on DailyKos and everyone was talking about forming a line to punch Joe Lieberman. It was a very long thread and it was apparent that this "punch Joe" line would grow very long, perhaps longer than the lines to vote.

It was because the Democratic establishment defied the netroots who had pushed Ned Lamont beyond Joe Lieberman in the primary. The will of the sincere and righteous had been thwarted by insider politics, and Joe Lieberman was the gloating face of this outrage.

This is why I went for the pressure-release valve, because at some point people need to take responsibility for their emotions. If Joe can get people this bent out of shape, there's something special about the guy. Because he's only a Senator from one tiny state. Therefore, my intervention on Joe's behalf was a good idea.

Nevertheless, Joe should contemplate how he has become such a reviled figure and choose a positive legacy for himself on this health care bill.

Oh, very funny. I STILL don't know what Al saw in him.

Al Gore was trying to balance the ticket with a conservative democrat to try to pick up Republican.
See how well that worked out.

I'm a little confused here. Why aren't liberal and progressive leaders (especially from connecticut!) not organizing protest of him? Why are there not organized campaigns of callers to his staff? Why no sit-ins at his office? Why not have connecticut voters who support a public option harass him everywhere he goes? Oh yea, liberal are inept at organizing for political advantage. I forgot. This is why the right can force out its' moderates in NY but the left gives it's most conservative members chairmen seats, and the power to thwart their goals. Pathetic!

Do you really think it would matter? No matter who runs against him, Lieberman will always have campaign money from the Mutual of Omaha, those PR firms and financial companies.

They *are* protesting him, peaceably. Read this article:

What's German slang for "defeat them with ideas, not with fists?"

Uhhh, although I somewhat agree with the sentiment, I would prefer we leave such comments to the knuckle-draggers in the other party.

What's happened to him since his nomination for Vice President?

Nothing has changed. He was the same then as now.

Isn't this the time for Al Gore to publicly apologize for elevating Lieberman from that of a Connecticut politician to that of a national figure?
02:58 PM on 11/01/2009
Absolutely right. We can blame the Supreme Court for GWB, but picking Alf's dad as a running mate didn't help much.

Slapping him?
Just firing him, and making him irrelevant would get more accomplished!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. When my Borther and I were kids and misbehaving, our Mother used to give us a Backpfeife.
In case you wonder why Mr. Lieberman does not support this plan, find out how his wife makes her money.

Thanks Norm,
It's not that any of us are really voilent or want to hurt this guy or anyone, but a backstabber is a backstabber. A person who fools you then acts like you were the fool to trust him with that arrogant smirk definitely earns this word that truly aptly describes him.

It would be different if it wasn't so obvious that Joe did this for his corporate buddies who are fattening his pockets..
He's the typical old snake oil salesman who lies to you right your face, saying, "I can't support this because it adds to the deficit." -When the Cong. Budget Office just finished their report saying it would actually LOWER the deficit. Yet, he has the comfort of people like Rush, Beck, all of FOX news to support his actions, which makes that "arrogant smirk" jump right out....
This highlights even more what the Republicans stand for, and it's all too clearly the corporations and big money institutions that line their pockets, not hard working Americans who deserve healthcare as a right, not a luxury.

Just take his chairmanships away, even if he grovels and begs. Why did Al Gore chose this person to be his running mate?
