Roadkill: OffTheBus's Ongoing RoundUp of the Awkward, the Ugly, and the Just Plain Weird

The following piece was produced through the Huffington Post's OffTheBus. Edited by Richard Riehl. Reported by Kirsten Anderson, Ken Bank, River Curtis-Stanley, Jodi Lampert, Julie Pierce, Debbi Plummer, and Theresa Weathers.

His mother's illness made him do it: In yesterday's email to "Fred-Heads" from Kyle Jones, Thompson's grammatically-challenged Western Young Professionals for Fred: "I apologize for not sending this email out earlier, but it took me a while to believe it was over. While exact details are not quite forthcoming, it appears that the main reasons for his withdrawal were his mother's ill health and dwindling's to seeing Fred as a VP!" We had the impression the slow-talkin' candidate was a forthcoming guy, and we assume it was Fred's, not his mother's resources, that were dwindling.

Somebody give this guy a map! Campaigning in Texas, Alan Keyes said he's had a tough time competing in a presidential race that embodies a "communist style of politics," putting a select few hopefuls on an inside track. "There are things that have happened in this race that made me wonder if we're still living in America," he said. We wonder if Keyes is living on planet Earth.

If you like Huck you'll love Ron: Ron Paul's finance director appealed for donations yesterday while attacking Huckabee: "For those of you who haven't heard, Mike Huckabee's campaign is broke. Don't let the same thing happen to Ron Paul. After all, where else would Mike Huckabee get all of his ideas?" They're also the ones who serve up for us at Roadkill some of our tastiest pavement pizza.

Huck thanks Dunc, briefly: In a three-sentence expression of his "deep gratitude" in his email to supporters yesterday, Mike Huckabee announced Duncan Hunter's endorsement of his candidacy. We were holding our breath over that one. John and Rudy must be crushed.
