SUMMARY
McCain 2008 Campaign Manager Rick Davis discussed the state of the race and the campaign's fundraising numbers for July in this press conference call. Davis reported that the campaign raised more money than in the previous month for the fifth consecutive month, bringing in $27 million and expanding the number of individual donors to 600,000. The campaign has about $21.4 million on hand from the primary campaign which it must spend by August 31st. The campaign, however, will have access to $100 million in the first week of September courtesy of the government-run public financing program. Davis also said that he was pleased with how the race was shaping up, saying that the candidates are polling very closely nationwide and in crucial swing states. He also said that McCain has effectively consolidated the party base.
