WHO: Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack
WHAT: Press conference call to discuss John McCain's and Barack Obama's plans for energy and the economy.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 9 at 11:30 a.m. EDT

SUMMARY
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland and Former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack criticized John McCain for his failure to "get it right" on energy in his 26 years in Congress, as well as on his presidential campaign. Vilsack cited McCain's opposition to higher mileage standards on cars and trucks and investment in renewable energies and better technologies. Obama, Vilsack said, has a "visionary plan for the future of our country," which includes raising mileage standards and $150 billion for research and development for new ways of energy and energy production. "John McCain had 26 years to get it right on energy and even today he hasn't gotten it right," Vilsack said. Strickland said the lack of any coherent energy policy resulted in the loss of more than 12,000 jobs in Ohio over a period of three weeks.
