WHO: Senator John Kerry (D-MA), Richard Clarke - Former national coordinator for counter-terrorism
WHAT: Press conference call to discuss Senator Obama's positions on terrorism
WHEN: Tuesday, June 17, 2008 12:30 PM ET
SUMMARY
This call responds to this morning's McCain camp conference call attacking Obama's positions on terrorism. Kerry and Clarke point to the call as a deliberate effort to distort Obama's actual stance on the issue. They emphasize in particular that his approach is in no way limited to civilian "law enforcement" tactics alone, as McCain foreign policy director Randy Scheunemann misstated this morning, but is in fact a comprehensive plan including military, intelligence and civilian/judicial components. They also accuse the McCain campaign of moving even closer to the Bush administration, not only in its support for the Iraq War, but in its apparent willingness smear political opponents using false information.
