WHAT: Obama press conference call to discuss RNC attack ad on Obama's energy plan
WHEN: Monday, July 7 at 1:15 p.m. EDT
SUMMARY
Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and Pennsylvania Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz discuss new attack ads by the Republican National Committee on Senator Barack Obama's energy plan, which are the first large-scale negative ads in the general election and are airing in battleground states Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Sen. Brown said such negative advertising is contrary to Senator John McCain's earlier statements about his being a positive campaign and his criticisms of Washington for not having adopted a real energy plan. The ad in question is titled "Balance" and says "Barack Obama just says no to lower gas taxes, no to nuclear, no to more production. No new solutions." Rep. Schwartz said Obama has worked on legislation that is currently pending in the Senate, and that the RNC's attack is "misguided, incorrect and disingenuous; it is neither right on the short term or long term solutions." Gov. Granholm added Obama's plan creates clean energy jobs, offers relief to American's pocketbooks, will reduce temporary spending, price gouging, end speculation and futures market, invest in alternative energy like wind, solar, and advanced biofuels to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
