WHO: Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and Obama campaign's Director of Economic Policy Jason Furman
WHAT: Press conference call to discuss Senator Barack Obama's economic security plan
WHEN: Monday, July 7 at 4:00 p.m. EDT
SUMMARY
Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and the Obama campaign's Director of Economic Policy Jason Furman discussed Senator Barack Obama's plans to strengthen economic security. Secreteary Reich summarized Obama's plan as "offering, bottom-up economics: tax breaks for the middle class, affordable health insurance, investments in infrastructure, and green technologies," which he contrasted with "McCain's top-down economic plan". Furman added that the country lost 438,000 jobs in the last 6 months and said Obama's $50 billion stimulus plan and $1,000 tax cut for middle class, which covers 95% of workers and their families, will help give the economy a short term boost.
