Under President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, he held the positions of National Secretary of Sports, National Secretary of Sports Education and Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Sports before being appointed Minister on March 31, 2006.

Mr. Silva Jr. is a member of the National Council for the Promotion of Racial Equality, the Latin American Council of Sports (DIC), he South American Sports Council (CONSUDE), and President of the American Council of Sports (CADE).
