Pardis Mahdavi, PhD is associate professor of anthropology at Pomona College. Her research interests include labor, migration, gender, sexuality, human rights, youth culture, transnational feminism and public health in the context of changing global and political structures. Her first book, Passionate Uprisings: Iran’s Sexual Revolution (Stanford Press 2008) looked at the intersection between sexuality and politics in post-revolutionary Iran, while her current work looks at gendered migration, labor and human trafficking in the United Arab Emirates. Her second book, Gridlock: Labor, Migration and ‘Human Trafficking’ was published in May 2011 by Stanford University Press.
