Hey there, Pennsylvania Democrats: are you sure you're old enough to vote? Because some of you are acting like two-year-olds.
A Franklin & Marshall College poll has found that if Barack Obama wins the nomination, 53% of Hillary Clinton's Pennsylvania voters would vote for him. Of the rest, 19% plan to vote for McCain, and 13% will sit on their hands on Election Day. Ditto Obama supporters -- 60% of them would support a nominee named Clinton, but 20% would vote for McCain, and 3% will stay home from the polls.
For some of these petulant, my-candidate-or-the-GOP-guy Democratic voters, it appears it's more about personality over policy. They'll choose four more years of Republican appointments of judges, Republican policies in the Iraq war, in environmental matters, in abortion and family planning programs, and tax cuts for the already prosperous ... all this over a Democratic fiscal and social and war agenda.
Nice work, people. If you want to cast a protest vote, why not choose Ralph Nader? This isn't like Florida 2000, where voters were confused by the ballot. If McCain wins as a consequence of this ''my way or the highway'' sulking, Democrats will know who they have to blame: themselves.

It does seem a little odd that pissed off Democrats would vote for McCain instead of Nader. Of course they have been told for years that a vote for Nader is a vote for the Republicans so maybe when they say they will vote for McCain they really mean Nader. They have also been told that Nader and not George Bush is responsible for everything that has gone wrong the last seven years. So maybe they hate Nader more than they hate the Republicans. In any case, which ever candidate wins the Democratic nod, the party looses. Is anyone thinking - gee - we could have had Richardson or Edwards?
Pat, I appreciate your courage in posting this, considering the inevitable responses from the cool aid crowd.
I agree that we need a Dem in the White House but I am not sure Clinton is a Dem anymore. McCain = Bush 2.1, Clinton = Bush Left and Obama = ? At this point I am ready to listen to the man that can speak in complete sentences and seems to have actually thought about the issues and is not just doing his masters bidding. We have had a Bush or a Clinton in the White House for an entire Generation. And I think we should start seeing other people. I will not vote for McCain but I am not sure I can vote for Clinton. We shall see when I go in the booth.
Unfortunately the damage is already done. If Hillary had left the race after March 4 -- since she didn't win TX after all, and since after WY and MS she was further behind than on March 3 -- We might have had a chance. But the last couple of weeks have made the first "kitchen sink" week look like a picnic. If, after the 2000 and 2004 elections and 7+ years of Bush the Dems actually enable HRC to steal this election, then it's clear to me that the party probably needs more time under Republican rule in order to figure out what to do and how to do it. And those same HRC supporters cheering her on to figure out some way to steal this election will not support Obama if he gets what he's already won. Either way, the party has found another way to lose.
"Now, you will see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."
This article is better news than expected! It says the majority of Clinton and Obama supporters are grown-ups and when the nomination is decided the Democratic Party will be just fine.
I am holding out hope that after the nominee is picked, and if there is time, i.e. this does not go until August, people will be able to get their heads around the fact that Hillary or Barack are leaps and bound better than John. Right now every one is emotionally invested in her or his candidate, and the media whipping the horses only exacerbates this. Its not about being for the good of the party, its about choosing a war breathing president or a president that has proclaimed that he or she will get us out of Iraq.
oh, god. how i wish that this would end... bush calls himself the 'decider,' hillary is truly the 'divider.'
The VAST majority of the people who say they'll vote for one but not the other are trolls to cause a stampede behind them. I was about to name names, but eh.
I agree. As much fun as it is to bash Hillary and her (I almost inserted an insult here, see how restrained I'm being) minions, and I suppose it's probly fun to bash Barack Hussein Obama. But let's remember, it's more fun to mock real republicans. It's also WAY more productive.
Than call me a 2 year old. I'm with the 3%. But I won't stay home. I won't vote for Hillary but I won't vote for McCain either. Or Nader. Unlike some "team players" who don't really care who the quarterback is, they just support the team, I have a few more principles. And my principles will not allow me to vote for Hillary or McCain. Or Nader. I stand by my decisions. If I cannot vote for my first choice candidate then I'll try to find another candidate I can vote for with a clear conscience. That will not be Hillary or McCain or Nader. I will not throw my principles away just so the *team* can win.
Oh but the war is a SUCH a meatgrinder. It has nothing to do with tribalism and everything to do with literal matters of life-or-death. We know Obama intends to end the war. With Hillary we don't, but there's always a chance.
I hope you don't have a daughter. Because if enough people like you do wha tyou say you're going to do, she won't have the right to choose.
Don't be an idiot. I love Obama too, but think of the Supreme court and the war in Iran. We'll be there if you people with hard feelings vote for McSlime or Nader, and it will be YOUR FAULT. Grow the F up. This is our country we're talking about. That's just nonsense.
Amazing how the NEW chopping changes a response meant for other commenters into a conception completely different. It seems paragraph breaks no longer allowed or something. Live and learn. I was NOT trying to imply that Pennsylvania voters see 'themselves' as infallible geniuses.
Same ol' - same ol' Clinton supporter spin. If anyone won't vote for Hillary, they MUST either hate women or else be a republicant. How convenient that opposing motives are ALWAYS the same, that unlike the 'brilliant minds'(cough) sitting in judgement, no voters against 'the Clintons' could possibly be thoughtful, have a conscience or analyze ALL available facts and issues for themselves. Yet, it's seemingly unthinkable to the mensa 'supporters' that someone might even see GREAT similarities between Hillary Clinton and John McCain, like Bill Clinton himself that tells OUR country how THEY are the ones that love America.
NoFactsJustTruth - we're almost certainly not going to be the ones presented with the dilemna of voting for McCain or the other democrat. A little diplomacy?
Huh? McCain seems to understand 'diplomacy' as much as the preznutz does, and like 'the Clintons' he will be and say whatever he has to ...just to get elected.
A headline lifted from Blazing Saddles? Very racist. Hillary is a power-over liar. (see Starhawk) Obama is a progressive Nash equilibrium intellectual. McCain at least is a delusional militarist. Which seems preferable to you? Two are fighting for what they believe to be decent, safe and fair. One wants her image to be immortalized in narcissistic grandeur . I would choose McCain in a heartbeat over Hillary. Obama is a great grace of God and intelligence; McCain is a true broken warrior and Hillary is the worst of the Me-generation, that does not realize that there are 380Million U.S. people that need more than another Madonna-figure that needs to make up for her rotten other half. And, btw, the Clinton years where the years of the McJobs and fake internet bubble! Did we forget that? And, no Hillary is asking internet/housing bubble Greenspan to save her banker friends, all the while dressing it up like a gift to the "honest" homebuyer. Please forgive me, but this is sick. This is not a monarchy, or an oligarchy. This is not a banker and Clinton/Bush playground for cronies. Please rid your country of this illness. I honestly fear it is the last chance you have to elevate yourselves to the place your Hollywood tells you you belong.
I am for Obama. The war is the issue. If Hillary does win, I will vote for her. Only fools thought a U.S. occupation would be welcomed in Iraq. Cheney and Bush may not care about us but they are not fools. While the war has been a disaster for us, they and there allies have improved their position in the world and that for them is what it is all about. I think Obama is fully committed to getting out and with Hillary we have a chance of getting out.
Oops - correction to my Obama supporter posting - I meant to say "won't vote for hrc" not "won't vote for mccain."
