When I talked to Gloria Steinem recently at the Skirball Cultural Center in LA, it would have been remiss of me, with the Oscars coming up, not to talk about feminism and film, among the many subjects we touched on.

She made me laugh and made me think, when I asked her whether she had a favorite movie that we might call a ''chick flick,'' and even whether that label itself was a problem. Here's what she said:
''Yes, because they don't call it a prick flick, you know. There are a lot of prick flicks.''
So, I ventured, is there a film that exemplifies what should be on screen?
``To me, one of the greatest ever made was "Antonia's Line," which won an Oscar for best foreign film in the 1990s. It was written and directed by a Dutch woman.''
