Prediction: Romney Will Not be the Republican Nominee

Posted: 07/18/2012 4:42 pm

No one who has received amnesty for a serious crime, such as tax evasion, can be president. One would think that someone for whom the clear implications are that he has received amnesty, but will not release exculpatory documents, also cannot be president.

As the press has been focused on what we now know as Romney's "retroactive retirement", that does not help him escape clear responsibility for his outsourcing strategy anyhow, I have tried to shine a light on the clearest, cleanest, unspinnable, problem with Romney's finances -- amnesty for his Swiss accounts -- suggesting that the Republican leaders, who dislike him anyhow, could not abide such a fatally-flawed nominee.

But, all I had on my side was logic. Why would he have closed only the Swiss Account when the Cayman/Bermuda accounts are also abusive tax havens, and he left those alone? Why would Romney have bothered to close the Swiss account at all? I deduced that what was special about his Swiss Account was the amnesty program allowed by the IRS. I also surmised that it was amnesty, more than anything else, that would keep him from releasing earlier tax returns.

Now, through investigative reporting, there is highly suggestive evidence that the logic was not wrong. Romney failed to disclose the documents he filed with the IRS in 2010, the year he has already released, that detail his Swiss Account holdings.

Hence, I am now prepared to go beyond my suggestions that the Republicans would not give him the nomination to a firm prediction: Romney will not be the 2012 Republican nominee for president. (He may be the "retroactive 2008 nominee" as Darrell Issa, who also cannot run for higher office due to his shady past, suggests).

Who will be? Before Romney is forced to withdraw, he will make a Vice Presidential selection, as an attempt to make it seem that his nomination is just rolling along, and is inevitable.

That person will have been fully vetted, (including his/her tax returns!).

I predict, therefore, that the Republican nominee for president will be the person Romney selects as his VP.

How ironic if that turned out to be T-Paw, who dropped out after losing to Michelle Bachmann in Iowa, (and whom Lawrence O'Donnell picked all along) becomes the 2012 Republican nominee for president!

There has to be Documents or a trail that would expose what has been hidden, or not reported by Romney regarding Off Shore Non-Reporting, Amnesty, or Fraud. I am sure somebody has the "
Smoking Gun". I expect Harry Reid to be fiercely looking for back up of his source.

Ron Paul all the way to the bank! (pun intended)

I was so fearful that the tax issues would go away as the press moved onto something different..this article to me is just what the American public needs to "flush out" those tax returns and I mean all the yearly tax returns, not just portions....to say he has been audited, to say he does not know what % he paid each year, and on and on...

Keep the pressure on this man...as if we do not we will be so sorry....

I find it funny that no one is defending Romney. I thought he had "support". I think the only support he has is from the same people that got Obama elected. It would be great if Ron Paul got the nomination. He has 500+ delegates and alternates going to Tampa, even though Romney is trying to steal those delegates away from him. I can't believe the "new" republicans are supporting a liberal. Oh wait, I think they are fooled by his neo-con, warmongering clothing. True old school republicans will always support the candidate that wants LESS government like Ron Paul. It's sad how many people believe the lies spread by the mainstream media.

I am not a Romney supporter. Actually I don't like him. That being said I hope they don't over-rule the will of the voters. He won because the people thought he was the best choice. They should let it stand and let the voters decide if they want to elect a possible criminal for president. Also by chance they don't pick him then they should pick one of his opponent during the primaries; not his VP pick. I think they will let him stay and hope he wins. I do think he is hiding something that is more damaging then the speculation. If he isn't hiding anything he would be smart to release them. Or perhaps they will tell him to release them or step down. This is truly sad.

The premise is that Romney by having foreign holdings has done something wrong and is guilty of tax evasion. Think the IRS just let that slide? Think Romney's Tax Accountant would just declare under the "Secret Offshore Holdings" Item? The reason this premise stands in the eyes of journalists is provoke Romney to release more tax returns. Why wouldn't he release them? Does no one remember the Palin email debacle? For weeks they hounded her to release them claiming there was incriminating evidence there. Finally they were released and NOTHING was found. Even if Romney produces the tax forms the press will comb over them and investigate every bit of holdings he has. But the press will use that even though they have never questioned any other DEMOCRAT in the same way (John Kerry is far richer than Romney - where was the press then? Oh right - voting for him).

Why do I care what Romney does with his money (gives to charity and actually pays more taxes than President and VP combined)?
I care what the President is doing with MY money. But the press won't cover that. Look! Squirrel!

A) Kerry is NOT richer than Mittens - check your "facts" B) This is a question of integrity. Why would we want a man to be President who doesn't even trust/use American banking / business?

A) Uhmm.  No.

B) Who said he didn't use them? He has foreign holdings.  So do a lot of people.  Having a Mutual fund in your 401K means you might as well.

They all released their tax returns. No one cares if he is rich. Some do care that a president who says he loves his country would cheat or do things to avoid paying his fair share while the rest of us suffer and have to pay. Some care is what he did is illegal. He should show them and let the people decide if they care what he did or didn't do. Where you around when Kerry was running? Remember the wind surfing? Not only did Kerry show his tax returns but the press did give him a hard time and he lost the election.

He did show them.  If the IRS thought he did something illegal they would audit him.

And what is his 'fair share'? If you take a deduction is that getting out of your fair share? NO! If there is a law that allows a deduction you're paying your share.  Romney with all his deductions paid $3 Million in 2010.  Remind me - how much did you pay in 2010?

Ironic that Bachmann beat Paul by a mere 150 votes, yet Paul gets no mention for shoving Pawlenty out of the race?

Paul would be every bit the president the country needs, and in all likelyhood will have a TEA Party congress at his back.

Without Paul, dear reader, you'd better hope you live in a conservative, secession-friendly state.

There are not many people that could unite a country 5 minutes after stepping off the plane. Romney has united the whole of the UK, left and right, AGAINST him with his London gaffes. Not many things unite the UK - Romney is one of them. Are the #GOP really going to nominate this gaffe prone loser?

Osama bin Laden united the entire USA after the 9/11 attacks, too.

I'm no Romney fan, but an American p!ssing off foreigners may very well be a vote-getter in this election. Obama was supposed to be an international uniter, and that's gone over like a fart in church.
02:17 PM on 07/29/2012
Umm... Chris? Time to turn the ol' brain on... Obama is loved internationally. Do you even read international news?
