Rove: "Congress Pushed Bush to War in Iraq Prematurely"

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

You are not going to believe this, well, actually you will... According to Karl Rove (on Charlie Rose), the Bush Administration did not want Congress to vote on the Iraq War resolution in the fall of 2002, because they thought it should not be done within the context of an election. Rove, you see, did not think the war vote should be "political".

Moreover, according to Rove, that "premature vote" led to many of the problems that cropped up in the Iraq War. Had Congress not pushed, he says, Bush could have spent more time assembling a coalition, and provided more time to the inspectors.

If you are like me, you have stopped reading/listening, and are rushing to get your anti-emetic.

It is worth remembering that the Senate in the fall of 2002 was controlled, barely, by Democrats. Get it? George Bush, we are being told, wanted to delay, wanted to hold back, wanted to take the time to build a coalition and let the inspectors finish their job, but that damn Congress just pushed him into it. George Bush, you see, is a careful, prudent, leader, deeply concerned about the consequences of premature.

Get it? If Biden, Clinton, Dodd or Edwards is part of the Democratic ticket, the Republicans will run a campaign charging the Senate Democrats with rushing to judgment, of pushing the poor President to premature...(well, you fill in the blank)....

Not that Iraq is that big of an issue. Rove claims that, if Iraq had been a big issue, that Joe Lieberman, who was pro-war, could not have won in Connecticut, defeating receiving more Democratic, Independent and Republican votes than any of his opponents.

I have purposefully NOT provided the (obvious) answers to his claims because to answer is to give him control of the argument. That's Rove's tactic, and I have written about that many times in these pages.

Instead, this should be used as a trigger to talk about Rove's history of dissembling, how that is reflected in the Bush Administration's entire approach to public policy and public information. Bush, through Rove, should be attacked for trying to escape responsibility and accountability. And, it will help to make some historical references to rulers whose tenure was so dismal that they could not allow historians to provide objective analyses, and thus try to write the history themselves.

As might have been predicted, Rove raises "historical revisionism" to new depths, what may become known as "hysterical Rovisionism."

That's interesting, Karl Rove.

Because like the heroes of United Flight 93, the American public is about ready to < PUSH > a drink cart up the GOP's ass in 2008.

Let's Roll!

It's true that no one should even dignify Rove's bullshit with a response.......but what do we do with the fact that he is even invited onto an otherwise legitimate forum like the Charlie Rose show and given a platform to spout his nonsense? Should we regard it as the freak show that it is.....or should we mourn the fact that a normally civilized forum such as the Charlie Rose program is being compromised in the name of "balance"?

When I first heard about this story I thought it was some kind of satire.

Incredibly, I was wrong.

Just when you thought he was gone, "to spend more time with his family," like the monster in a slasher movie, he pops up again. YIKES!!
Of course we knew that he would make the rounds of the talk shows, assuming they would treat him with the respect that nobody deserves less. They don't want confrontation. They want sound bites.
Of all the spokespeople for this slimy administration, Karl Rove is the most foul.
But, he has been practicing his evil deeds since he was in college, before he dropped out, and worshipped the cheerleader, George W Bush, like a God.
This is what happens when the pasty-faced nobody who could never get the girl grows up and gets his revenge.
Every time Karl Rove is described as charming and witty I am astounded at what people who are currying favour with those they see as powerful will say.
I can't see this man without feeling that I should have a shower. YUCH!!!

Just like the administration didn't ever say "Stay the course!" Rewrite all you want. Only the diehards continue to be willingly duped. Everyone else has woken up! Try this asshole at the Hague already!

Any questions?

Another common denominator, all the stories and criticisms we have of this admonistration, is the complicity of the MSM. They helped bush push the invasion. They didn't ask questions. They even had maps of Irag on their newsroom floors, with former generals talking about how best to kill more efficiently. All of this done with the steady sound (ramboish) of actual drum beats sounding like the beat of an approahing army, dant tee dong, dant tee dong dong dong.

No, rove is not a genius. He simply took advantage of ignorant (mostly bias) American people. Its not hard to do. You just have to not give a dam about your own country.

Everyone:
make an effort to read or re-read Orwell's 1984.
It explains everything, and lowers your stress level as you read news that seems on the surface to not make sense.
Then get a cup of hot cocoa, and relax while you think on what you can do to get our constitution back.

Nobody can accuse him of not being audacious. Or shameless.

I think you're right about not taking the bait. We should all just start laughing at them.... and then we should laugh them right into prison where they belong.

Impeach Cheney and Bush and then convict the rest of them for the crimes they have committed.

CARL ROVE IS AN ENEMY OF THE STATE AND A TERRORIST AND BY HIS OWN LAW TO BE TREATED AS SUCH. ALL PRESENT AND FORMER MEMBERS OF THIS WHITEHOUSE CABINET INCLUDING FORMER INTERIOR DEPARTMENT EXEC MACDONALD FOR RE- DESIGNATING AREAS OF HER RANCH NOT ENDANGERED HABITAT.
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, THE TRUTH IS THE GREATEST ENEMY OF THE STATE." -- Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945

Mr. Abrams makes a good point, to answer this man's claims gives "him contol of the argument", and I would add, a certain legitimacy that he is not entitled to. Sadly we live in a world where the likes of a Karl Rove will always find an audience, and so for a while anyway, we will have to endure the verbal insults of not only this pathological liar, but of all the others in this administration, who in the coming years, will attempt to tell us that everything we know is wrong. These febble little men have the audacity to think that they can write our history. The reality is the truth is going to bury them, and they are powerless to stop it. So the worst thing we can do to men like Karl Rove is to simply ignore him, and eventually he will just go away. Then we wait for historys version of the story, you know, the real one.

I watch the show and I think Charlie was just as shocked as I was when Rove said that.

Rove has got away with saying black is really Red for so long HE thinks he can say anything he wants and some fool will jump up and say.... Rove is right. Then that Rove will say... It must be true because this fool stood up and said it...so see I have proof that I didn't make it up....

Yes...that really is the Karl Rove way...
