Rove: "Congress Pushed Bush to War in Iraq Prematurely"

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

You are not going to believe this, well, actually you will... According to Karl Rove (on Charlie Rose), the Bush Administration did not want Congress to vote on the Iraq War resolution in the fall of 2002, because they thought it should not be done within the context of an election. Rove, you see, did not think the war vote should be "political".

Moreover, according to Rove, that "premature vote" led to many of the problems that cropped up in the Iraq War. Had Congress not pushed, he says, Bush could have spent more time assembling a coalition, and provided more time to the inspectors.

If you are like me, you have stopped reading/listening, and are rushing to get your anti-emetic.

It is worth remembering that the Senate in the fall of 2002 was controlled, barely, by Democrats. Get it? George Bush, we are being told, wanted to delay, wanted to hold back, wanted to take the time to build a coalition and let the inspectors finish their job, but that damn Congress just pushed him into it. George Bush, you see, is a careful, prudent, leader, deeply concerned about the consequences of premature.

Get it? If Biden, Clinton, Dodd or Edwards is part of the Democratic ticket, the Republicans will run a campaign charging the Senate Democrats with rushing to judgment, of pushing the poor President to premature...(well, you fill in the blank)....

Not that Iraq is that big of an issue. Rove claims that, if Iraq had been a big issue, that Joe Lieberman, who was pro-war, could not have won in Connecticut, defeating receiving more Democratic, Independent and Republican votes than any of his opponents.

I have purposefully NOT provided the (obvious) answers to his claims because to answer is to give him control of the argument. That's Rove's tactic, and I have written about that many times in these pages.

Instead, this should be used as a trigger to talk about Rove's history of dissembling, how that is reflected in the Bush Administration's entire approach to public policy and public information. Bush, through Rove, should be attacked for trying to escape responsibility and accountability. And, it will help to make some historical references to rulers whose tenure was so dismal that they could not allow historians to provide objective analyses, and thus try to write the history themselves.

As might have been predicted, Rove raises "historical revisionism" to new depths, what may become known as "hysterical Rovisionism."

Good observation, Mr. Abrams. Since Rove has always been incapable of arguing an issue on substance, he prefers to frame the debate in terms more favorable to him, i.e., lying his ass off.

I guess he figures if he tells a big enuf lie, his opponent will be so astounded by the size of his balls that he won't be able to reply rationally and will be forced to argue in terms he has set.

All this is really about, of course, is rewriting history so George can come out looking like a hero. And, since Karl is his mentor, he, too, will be seen in a favorable light.

But hsitory doesn't work that way. It might be bent for a while, but in the end, there's no hiding the truth. Just look at what's unfolding in the JFK assissantion investigation fiasco -- now the FBI's furtive role in massassing evidence is finally being discredited and the whole "magic bullet theory" of Arlen Spector will be shown to be the J. Edgar Hoover fairy tale it really is.

The only thing that was "premature", was the birth of Dumbya. It has giving the U.S. the worst period in Presidential history, and it allowed the marriage of his stupidity and your evil seed to perpetrate our society. Because of you and Dumbya, the U.S. is now known to lie about going to war, to steal elections, to torture, to illegally spy on it's own citizens, shit on the constitution, destroy the middle class, to expand war profiteering to it's most lucrative state and to have leaders that commit treason. You belong in prison, not on talk shows or the lecture circuit!

Watch the video in the Olbermann and Ariana post.

WhiteHouse.gov listed the reactions of Bush - "elated" being one of them - when Congress moved to authorize him to go to war.

Once again, Karl Rove is full of horse shit.

Let the man speak. Maybe it wasn't Bush foaming at the mouth to go to invade Iraq.
Maybe it was AIPAC pushing Bush through congress to do Israel's bidding.

And of course let's not forget Cheney's oil and the crusaders.

Bush the hesitant president pushed into the quagmire. I can believe it. The greatest hoax Rove pushed on the American people is that Bush was/is a strong leader.

The Bush administration in its rudimentary form discussed war in Iraq at least 12 years before it was lunched. Retired general, Anthony Zinni, said that the plans were in the works at least as far back as that or even just after the first Gulf War ended. Congress, as it stood in 2002, was not a reality then. Karl Rove is full of horse shit.

Charlie Rose, really never challenges his guests, they are just an excuse for him to show the viewers, how knowledgeable he thinks he is and to promote their works or views, the reason he has so many important and famous people on his show is because rest assured they know they will be able to say what they please without a challenge. Rose is a babbling doofus constantly interrupting his guests, especially when you do want to hear them.

You can lead an ass to the water but you cannot force it to drink. That apply to Bush.

Father, I cannot tell a lie I asked Rove to do it.

A rove is a rove, any pile of crap would smell just as tainted and digested. Charlie Rose should be kicked in the nuts and spun around 13 times for keeping his pie hole shut during this emetic outpouring from KKKarl.

Poor, fat, pathetic Karl Rove. He got his ass handed to him in 2006, and now the freaky little gnome is trying to pull his failed party out of the toilet, by lying and rewriting history. This loser need to accept that America has abandoned Bush and his miserable policies, and no amount of laughable "spin", is going to change that.

Former Deputy Chief of Staph, Karl Rove's continued lies and dangerous antics shouldn't be a surprise. We should thank Charlie Rose for reminding us.

I noticed that if the MSM, who are suppose to be our free press, had been doing their job. All the lying, starting from day one of these sorry lying bastards campaign, would have been exposed.

But we no longer have a free press. Instead we have a treasonous chickenshit press.

I have suggested many times on this and other sites, that if we protest, the protest should be at all MSM network headquarters. After all, they have the power. They are the biggest traitors.

Its hard to ignore protest when its your doors that are being torn down. Only protesting in protest friendly zones, in front of congressional and other public facilities where, in most cases the politicians have already left, is a waste of time. We can take this country back anytime we want to. There is nothing to fear but fear itself.

This little lying ROVE PIG has the audacity to tell these lies, because its the only thing he has. All these republicans would not be resigning, if they thought they had all the power some of us think they have. All we have to do is makeup our mind and drag the lying bastards out.

The thugs in the Bush cabal lied through their teeth about Iraq from the very first second. They lied over & over again to beat their propaganda over the heads of the press, the Congress & the public so the press & the Congress would be too spineless to stand up to the Bush Gestapo for fear of being smeared unpatriotic. And this scumbag wants to blame the war on Congress? This war wasn't a mistake or a blunder. It was a crime, an act of treason. And the Bush thugs who foisted this on America need to be taken out. By any means possible.
