This is a minor response to Chez Pazienza--the Guitar Hero with feet of claymation--and his post, "What a Long, Strange, Thoroughly Obnoxious Trip It's Been," a delusionally subjective, condescending blog, filled with hostile generalizations and a million exaggerations.
These days--despite the wingnuts media binge and the major disappointments of the Obama administration--there also seems to be a mass awakening in process, comparable to the evolutionary jump in consciousness that took place during the '60s, enhanced by technology.
It gives me a sense of hope, as well as a sense of continuity, that countercultural values have "infiltrated" mainstream awareness, such as the peace movement, organic food, animal rights, protecting rainforests, environmental sustainability, growing hemp, anti-pollution, recycling waste, racial equality, feminism, renewable energy, alternative healthcare, and diversified spiritual practices.

Chez Pazienza totally ignored the civil rights progress made for blacks, women, and guys made by the 60s generation.
He also totally ignored--or was ignorant of-- the fact that 60s protestors forced Lyndon Johnson to decide not to run for president again. (Johnson was the man whose Tonkin Gulf lies ramped up the war and whose strong arm political tactics started a tragic political legacy for Texas politicians that still pollute our present-day politics).
The 60s generation also got the draft revoked and forced the US to eventually get out of the Vietnam quagmire.
Besides, back in the 60s, kids and young adults were lambasting their Eisenhower generation for living in Levittowns and being politically inactive. So in 30 years, your kids will lambaste your generation for doing nothing to stop two immoral wars and voting Bush in for a second term. It's called the circle of life.
You're welcome, Chez.

Haven't had a cup of coffee yet.
Hey There Paul,
I listened to you and Hugh Romney on the radio back in NYC after I got home from the swing shift in 67.
Yes folks, hippies work. I'm a good worker and the hippy people I hung out with were the best, most conscientious and creative workers I have ever met. So there.
I feel extremely fortunate to have been at the right place at the right time and I'm still a hippy and proud of it.
