In the wake of what is merely the latest example of their apparently never-ending caving -- this time on the domestic surveillance bill -- I am looking for a new word to describe the Democrats, as "gutless," "spineless," and "craven" all seem like high praise compared to the way they deserve to be characterized. I welcome any suggestions.

They have a strong spine when it means going against the will of the American people!
When they back Bush they show utter fearlessness
in the face of the people that voted them into power.
With the knowledge that History will crap on
thier names forever they show incredible missplaced courage.

Don't you think it high time for us to admit that we have a ONE PARTY system. That single party has two almolst identical branches, the only significant difference between the two branches being the labels. It is a standing joke with those who own and operate this charade that so many take them so seriously. Their devotees are like all religious fanatics worshipping imaginary deities. They see things that are now there: like fiscal responsibility, values, care for humanity, patriotism, service to the people, etc., etc., etc..

There has always(during my life) been a significant % of Americans who do not get or want the Bill of Rights. It just protects criminals, terrorists etc. So much in our culture supports and encourages this attitude. How many crime dramas have the message that if only we let the police do what they want we could stop the injustices of criminals getting off? the media has been conditioning in its entertainment programs for a long time to accept totalitarianism and a police state. The majority probably agrees with this law and the courts have been so stocked with authoritarians that there is no check there. the advent of mass communications was a factor the founders did not anticipate and it has radically changed the world.

The democrats are owned by the same corporations so why would you expect them to be different from the GOP?

Yes, owned by the same corp's as the repub's. American people are so screwed. Dem's are weasels of the worst kind. The true Dem's of the past cared about people and their well being. Not anymore. Upper classes are where their interests lie. Tragedy.

The house and the senate are stuck in idle.

Another key ingredeient in this impasse is the extent of political polarization that exists in the house and senate.

And again we have a situation that is existing to the detriment of fairness and progress.

Something like 80%of the populace is against the foreign policy practices of the present administration, yet we can't pass any legislation

The Democrats are simply happy with the opportunity to kick the staus quo up a notch.
Today's elected 'leaders' have no desire to return to Constitutional government.

Replaceable.

If you think that Congress works for the public majority, you are sorely mistaken. If you think that can be changed within the current governmental structure, you are again mistaken.

It may be time for another Declaration of Independence. We can even draw on the previous version, especially the "dissolve" phrase. In the meantime, don't fool yourself into thinking that the Dems didn't work out... They are working out just fine for the nation's Gentry, and that's all they were ever supposed to do.

Describes the situation perfectly.

This post is about the letter D. Republicans nauseate me, I agree with 10% of their views. But a least they are strong enough to make the dems do what they want. Democrats have demoralized to the point of giving up voting. They promise we elect and then they cower in the corner and let everything go on as if they were the minority. Disenchanted in the disingenuous.
